Denver, CO

A lawsuit has been filed and is seeking class action status challenging Denver's pit bull ban. The lawsuit was filed in US District Court on behalf of pit bull owners and claims the city's animal control officers' confiscation of pit pulls is unconstitutional. In 1989, the city of Denver enacted a ban after a series of pit bull attacks lead to the death of a boy and injury of a pastor. Since the law was instated, Denver has killed more than 1,000 pit bulls. The lawsuit claims dog misbehavior is in the hands of the owner and that the city is being prejudice against one breed of dog.
