Neurontin SIde Effects

NeurontinSide effects: suicidal behavior/attempted suicide, paranoia, memory loss, hostility, unsteadiness, severe mania, depression, abnormal thinking, incoordination, dizziness, drowsiness, water retention, nausea and/or vomiting, ataxia (inability to control muscles), fatigue, and/or viral infection.

The drug company Pfizer (a/k/a Parke-Davis/Warner-Lambert) has engaged in consumer fraud by marketing and promoting this drug for uses that it simply does NOT work for. In fact, in many cases, a placebo worked better than Neurontin.

If you have been prescribed Neurontin, bought and/or used the medication for a use other than one which is FDA-approved, and suffered any of the above side effects, please please fill out the form below.

I have been on gabapentin for at least over 10 years. Probably close to 15 years now and I take 800 mg 4 times a day. And never knew that it would cause withdrawal or anything of that nature and had no idea all of the side effects that I would eventually face. And now I can't even see with my glasses or contacts on whether it's up close or far away. I can barely see anything now. It's so blurry and actually had at 1 point for a week. One of my eyes literally went completely blind and then gradually. I got my vision back in it which was very weird. Period I have struggled with my muscles being uncontrollable jerking on me at times and I have also struggled with depression, and I can't remember anything anymore, and I used to be on point and remember everything every little detail. And now I can barely remember anything at all. And I suffer from tremors and I had no idea until recently that the gabapentin was the reason for all of these things happening. And I feel that the drug manufacturers should have to compensate for everything that this drug does to you and I'm still currently on it because I have been on it so long. And I've tried to come off of it before, but the withdrawals are so horrible. I can't even explain press and words how weird it makes you feel and how just you almost feel insane and like you're in another dimension or something it's really weird and so I'm scared to death now to come off of it. And I just f
Feel that they should be held accountable for the damage that this drug does to your body and for being way less than transparent about this medication. And even the doctors are not educated enough on it. And they don't truly understand that you really do. Go through withdrawals, and the withdrawal is so intense that. You can't barely even stand it. So it's easier to just stay on it. And that's a sad thing. So I would like to know if there is a way or if there is a lawsuit going on yet or what could be done about this? Because it really sucks to know that a pill. Has that much control over your body

Started this poison in 2020 when I couldn't sleep due to anxiety. I was on it until recently and trying to get off of it was nearly impossible. I would get the shakes, horrible anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation/attempts and so much more. I finally got off of it in October and now my hair is falling out and I have worse anxiety & insomnia than before. I'm going to be bald soon because of this crap and I struggle to live. Anybody affected by this crap deserves a settlement!!

I was prescribed Neurontin as a child from age 13 till i was 17yrs old 4 years at 300mg 3x a day I am 39yrs old and not on the drug now however I have numerous scars all over my arms and my neck from countless suicide attempts...
I remember being admitted in to mental hospitals so many times I honestly don't know the number of times I went ...
I believe the number is around 25 times that I was admitted
of attempting suicide however the attempts have actually been triple digits...
If anyone knows of any kind of class action lawsuit or compensation for this drug please let me know my email address is sicstgrace2316@gmail.com or 444wolfe@gmail.com my name is Rachel Hutchins and I unknowingly am a survivor of Neurontin....

I've been on gabapentin for 3 years. Now trying to taper off but I keep getting shaking and teeth chattering face twitches. I was taking it because of taking Seroquel you get restless leg syndrome. Also because for emotional regulation I guess. I can only guess because my memory is about gone. I see similar comments here. I'm trying to get off of it but the withdrawals are worse than taking it.

My boyfriend started Gabapentin for migraines in 2022 at 1200mg a day. 300mg 3x a day and experienced dizziness, memory fog/loss, aggressions/agitation, vision loss that resulted in needing an eye prescription, extreme weight gain and chronic fatigue which sometimes causes him to fall asleep while driving or doing mundane tasks. He was 22 years old when he started the drug and was taking them for less than a year. We assumed the symptoms were due to stress from college. However, he is still having trouble with all of these symptoms a few months after stopping Gabapentin. Do the side effects ever go away and is he eligible for compensation?
His behavior change has caused him to become a completely different person than before he was taking this medication.

My husband was prescribed this for cramp fusculation syndrome, and neuropathy, the Drs just kept increasing it, treating symptoms, but never finding the root of it all. He was on 3,600 mg a day, ( that is the maximum dose) he was basically a walking zombie, he could not function, let alone think for himself, he had to concentrate so hard on every word, it was like he was impaired, he couldn't remember conversations we had 5 minutes prior, it was bad! We went to several Drs to find out what was going on, and I decided to do research, I told his Drs I was taking him off if it, but I had to do it gradually. I have him down to 1/2 pill 3 times a week. This drug needs to be taken off the market, or monitered closely, for those that desperately need it. It's not safe!

I've recently been diagnosed with adhesive arachnoiditis and one of the only medication any provider will give me for pain is gabapentin. And I have to take large doses. Since being on gabapentin (which has been on and off for several years), I've gained weight, I get dizzy all the time, I'm having signs of memory loss and I have ringing in the ears. It's frustrating because this medication is listed in all the websites for the kind of neurological pain I have, as one of the best meds to control the pain. But I have to take larger doses all the time. It's not right.

I was taking gabapentin for my neuropathy for approximately. Within the last two years and severely this year, I have had major memory loss. So much that I let my dog out to potty, forgot that I let him out, and he was struck & killed by a car driving by.
This occurred in May of this year and since then and once I found out that there were major connection issues with gabapentin and memory loss, I contacted my Physician and told them that I decided to stop taking the gabapentin.

I’ve been on Gabapentin for 3 years at 1200mg 3x daily. My life has truly been a nightmare for past 2.5 years. I have over 2000 pages of medical records since Feb 2020. I have severe memory loss, severe fatigue, fecal incontence, horrible vision, and severe GI issues. So much so, they had to medically retire me from my job Jan 2022. I’m now seeing a specialist at UofMN, trying to fix the damage. I’m now on full time home health care, getting infusions 2x weekly, bed ridden, home health aid, and an RN. They are now planning on putting a J tube in me because my GI issues are so severe. My GI issues were so bad that they thought taking my gallbladder out would fix it! Nope! I now have chronic pancreatitis secondary to them taking my gallbladder all because of Gabapentin. I’m only 43 and was perfectly healthy. I was prescribed Gabapentin due to cervical spine pain, by the Dept of VA. I was recently diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome secondary to Gabapentin and being so sick. I use a walker because I have significant muscle weakness, and was fully bedridden for 1.5 years. The ONLY change in my life/diet was Gabapentin. Yet no dr thought that this could be the issue. They definitely do now. They took me off 20 days ago and all I can do is pray that I can finally get better. I don’t care about the money-all I want Is for them to be held accountable and this medication pulled from the market! My life has been so miserable that I had put a gun to my head bc I can’t live like this anymore. Im now I’m counseling. My depression is significant and I lost everything in life. I lost my career, my home, “friends” (no one could handle how sick I was). Drs told me last July that I had 6 months left to live! I was THAT sick. I went from healthy with only neck pain, to 5 feet in my own grave. I’m looking for a lawyer and I’m working with the Patient Doctor Forum. Sadly, this drug is not even listed as a controlled medication at the Fargo ND Dept of Veterans Affairs. No about of money in the world will be able to give me back the past 2.5 years and all that I’ve lost. My mental health will never be the same as now I have PTSD from how sick I am. A constant fear that I’m going to die. This isn’t just memory loss-this was and is, my entire ability to thrive.

I've been taking gabapentin for over 20 years. Started out at 300mg, went up to 1200mg, but have been at 900mg for the past year or so. My memory has been getting worse over the past several years, I retain water all the time, my lower extremities swell and no doctor I've seen has been able to say why. The list goes on and on. It's hard to enjoy life when you live like this.

I've taken gabapentin for nerve pain after low back surgery in 2002.
At first I didn't think it was helping at all,
But I've been taking it steady since 2014 ,and now I can tell that it seems to help some because if I run out the feeling of having sosks on with rubber band around toes is more noticeable.
This past March I was a passenger in. My friends truck when someone hit us, I have 5 herniated disc in neck and I pulled my low back again today.
Now my numbness is worsening.

My older dog needs to go out at least 5 times during the night, which I gladly do, my first night on Gabepentin was a night I will not forget,I was told it will help me sleep, but oh boy,I was floating, when I thought I was on the top step I was needless to say already falling, and broke my foot. I don’t see that this medication is or has helped my numbness in my arms and fingers, in fact I can honestly say that it does not work for what it was prescribed to do, other than to cause major bloat and Gas.

I was diagnosed with aggressive osteoarthritis, Fibromyalgia. I was given Gabepetin for my pain. Thinking it was working.but, come to find out it never did. So, years later I stopped taking it. Now looking back. That is when I had a fall and developed migraines. As I kept take it, it wasn’t working. So, my Dr. prescribed me Migraine meds. (Can’t remember the name off the top of my head). I have noticed my memory has some what vanished while taking and also still affected. I was noticing prior to my accident that my son kept noticing it as well. I feel like I should be compensated for the wrong action of this medication. I can get all my medical bills and prescriptions for you.

How do I get on board with this lawsuit concerning Gabapentin?

Posted by

on
This drug was pushed on me in higher and higher dosages for almost 10 years from 7-9 doctors. All doctors were part of the SIH medical organization in southern Illinois. I have had increased memory problems and bipolar disorder problems ever since. I had never been diagnosed bipolar until after I got away from them. I had only been diagnosed with chronic depression. Every doctor doubled or tripled the dose when I told them it didn’t work and made me feel very strange and disassociated. It was given to me for back pain. They never even suggested an MRI. Nerontin was the only thing ever prescribed for almost 10 years by every doctor in that organization.

I have been taking Gabapentin for 4 or 5 years. I was prescribed Gabapentin by my DO for chronic and sensitive pain in my ankle and lower left leg after a horrible ankle break. My husband and I noticed that I had problems holding on to anything with my hands. I constantly dropped the items with no warning. I have spilled hot drinks on my feet. I was very unsteady and have fallen down the stairs twice. I was always fatigued and could not think clearly..felt like I was in a deep fog. If I had known that Gabapentin was the cause I would have stopped taking them a long time ago. I have been off of them foe 3 months and the difference is amazing...I feel like my old self again...all of the side effects have dissipated.

I've been taking gabapentin for at least ten years for neuropathy, and had noticed the following chronic changes in me about one year after taking this drug. I did not know this drug could cause these symptoms until researching the probable causes of my chronic symptoms today.

I will in fact go over this with my general practitioner as soon as I can.

Short and long term memory loss.
Chronic fatigue.
Involuntary muscle movement.
Mild Paranoia.
Anxiety.
Depression.
Premature tooth decay.
Chronic headaches.

I was prescribed gabapentin and for years for restless leg syndrome, migraines, seizures, and a few other symptoms. This year i noticed that my ability to think has been exceptionally hard and to remember anything has been almost impossible. I have about 90,% of the common and uncommon side effects listed. I haven't noticed until this year that my memory has been close to non-existent. My fiance has been trying to tell me that for the past few years. Which made me look at the whole picture and all the problems over been going through over the years
most likely had to do with my gabapentin use. Including the extreme anxiety, chest pains, memory loss, trouble breathing, suicide attempts...etc ..the list goes on.

I was prescribed gabapentin in 2015 at a rehab. I used it while I was in residential treatment. In 2017 I went into another treatment facility where again I was given gabapentin. I was told it would help with my anxiety and help me sleep. I've been through so much these past few years. My psychiatrist now prescribed it for me because I have suffered some trauma and find it difficult to be in a place with a lot of people, over 10. I have since been experiencing memory loss, have difficulty speaking, I feel stupid so I try to avoid conversation with anyone. I asked my therapist and psychiatrist if it could be related to my meds and was told it wasn't. My vision has also been getting pretty bad

Went to obtain a 2nd opinion at a well respected medical facility in New England. Pain management dr (without even asking about my medication history) immediately prescribed Gabapentin WHEN I TOLD him the Ultram I was taking worked well with NO SIDE EFFECTS. He side it was an opioid and therefore would not prescribe.
Within a week of taking the Gabapentin I had severe adverse effects - flu like symptoms (worse than I have ever experienced), dizzy, loss of equilibrium, headaches, severe joint/muscle aches, barely able to walk, rash on trunk of body. Stopped taking as this drug is toxic. I be filing a complaint with FDA (in fact just recently they put out a warning January 2020). And more information is being released that this is the "new go to drug" because of less regulation.
I COULD HAVE HAD A MORE SEVERE REACTION THAN I DID. This doctor ought to be admonished severely. Pill pusher without finding out the facts!

I’m 41 and have been on gab for about 7 years. I was put on gab for RLS. Since then I had become reliant on anti depressants and abused alcohol. I attempted suicide 3x. Today I’m 3 years sober but still on gab and have tried numerous meds for depression and anxiety. I truly feel like my mind and body is a mess. Is it the gab? I’m on 800 mg 3x per day for total 2400mg. I don’t have seizures or epilepsy but strange side effects may be happening bc of this. But I’m scared to stop it. Reading all this really has me concerned. Since being off Gabapentin my memory is still is bad but I have noticed that the pain is not as bad that wasn't a lot more pain on gabapentin than I am without it

I believe that the poison gabapentin caused a cancerous tomor on my left kidney which ended up in the loss of my kidney. My kidney function went from GFR function of 90+ to 60 and then to 32.6 while taking 300 mgs 3 times daily. This all happen within 11 months.

I seen a post almost exact to my complaint right down to the age. I'm 43 was given gabapentin Lyrica and cymbalta all together for fibromyalgia and nerve pain in my feet and legs about maybe 8 yrs ago almost immediately I was walking into walls and noticed dizzy and balance issues. So I stopped the Lyrica thinking it was way to much to be on at once ... I stopped taking gabapentin at one point 5yrs ago because I discovered I was pregnant. After my son was born again I went back to it. Because my feet and legs pain was so severe after my son was born I could barely take care of him. Not realizing so many of my health issues were about to get worse. My Dr upped my dose bc I didn't feel it was even working any longer for my restless legs and told me I needed to exercise more .I nearly killed my son falling in my driveway going to get the carriage to go for a walk ... My falling dizzy episodes went on for a while. I also believe I ruined a relationship bc I wasn't very rational and made an extremely bad move now looking back it wasnt something I would do now. I became very depressed when I started forgetting things dropping things and then noticed involuntary limb spasms ..was laughed at by my PCP when I told her I thought I was getting Alzheimer's. At 41 then . almost 3 yrs ago I weened myself off and still have so many difficulties with daily living. Although I'm not sure which left behind issues are from the medicine and which are fibromyalgia related. I feel my cognitive function is way off even all this time later. I have a hard time maintaining my three children and household needs most days. Nerve Problems so bad it keeps me from having a normal day. Sometimes I get a few good days in a row. But it saddens me they don't last long. Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone.

I was given this medication for chronic nerve pain in 2014. I was taking the maximum doseage. I started to notice extreme distractability, memory loss, confusion, misplacing things and blaming other family members because I not only forgot where I placed the item, but had no recallection of even touching the item I misplaced. I had a very hard time at work and this effected every aspect of my life. To date, I still forget my age, the route to stores I've been to all my life, peoples names and other important information that I should know. My family doesn't understand how this drug effected my because on the outside, I appear to be healthy. This is very imbarrassing. I had set up an appointment for a well known neurologist and the day of the 6 hour test, something told me to look up the side effects of this drug. I was completely taken back by all the pages of experiences with this drug as they related to severe memory function. I decide against the doctors that day to stop taking this drug. I weighed the pros and cons and decided that I would rather suffer with chronic pain then not have the ability to remember. Today I am still having the same issues and more. I am 43. and I was 39 when this happened.

Took gabapentin for pinched nerve in back for a period of three weeks. Am coming off. Am having severe diarrhea, everything I eat or drink comes right out of me like a fire hose of yellow water. Lost 30 lbs. None of my doctors have anything that helps, not imodium not lomotel, not BRAT (bananas rice applesauce toast diet ). Material online makes little mention of diarrhea. No one told me this could be so dangerous. All of the suffering patients should sue. I know I want to.

I have peripheral neuropathy and have been taken gabapentin for about 4 years. I have experienced very high anxiety which the neurologist said is caused by the gabapentin. Suggested I see a psych for the anxiety. Well he upped the gabapentin. I am now on 2400 mg a day. It's like a catch 22. I also have very bad leg cramps at night. Am losing my hair which is a side effect from the drug. I was out of the med for 1 day and went through withdrawal. Don't know which way to turn.

Recently I would get up in middle of night to go to bathroom next thing I knew I would wake up laying in floor and wouldn’t know how I got there. September 15 my son found me on bathroom floor I completely shattered both of my ankles, broken right wrist, and 2 broken ribs. I have no memory as to how it happened, still as if today I still have no memory what happened. I am no weight bearing till December only way for me to get around is by wheel chair.

I've taken this drug as well as Lyrica. If one only knows the real outake of taking these. It's simply to you've taken the drug, but the real outcome is when nothing else matters to you,but in reality, you realize yu have a lot to live for. It's a consistency of repetitive intake, when your afraid but nothing else helps & your looking for relief but its still not there so yu try to cut back, but your mind body, & soul is calling for this drug. You depend on your doctor for suggestions, when you have to take them upon their offer b/c nothing else is working for yu.it makes yu feel like a ginney pig ????????????

I was put on gabapentin 8 mo this ago for neuropathy pain .At night it got bad enough
that I wanted relief.long story short , I was originally on 100 mg 1x day ,2 100mg nite. Worked pretty well for 1 month & 1/2.I was
Upped to 300mg 3×day.
I'm 64yrs old , female which puts me at risk with this med , for extreme burning all over body.
Well, 4& 1/2 months after starting , Iwas burning and thought I wasn't going to make it.
Went on patient forums and found alot of info including others that experienced the same.
Asked Dr. For pills to substitute for caps and
titrated down .I'm now after 3 months at 400mg..a day and I have just had an EGD scope
which found chronic gastritis .Very pain full and all I do is drink loads of water.legs / arms crawling skin ,pins and needles drowsy ,loss of balance and feel as if I'm on the bow of a ship.
Still burning and stomach is as well.
Phizer did market it as snake oil .It is, only it's dangerous gives people so many problems .
Comming off it is an even bigger nightmare.
This poison should never have been on the market.

I am 39 years old and have been taking Gabapentin for about 10 years now. I am currently fighting for my SSI Due to having disk degeneration in my L1-S5 (sever on the left and moderate on my right). I am now at the stage now where I am starting to have memory loss, numbing, dizziness in my head, hard time breathing, but oxygen levels are fine. I have 20-15 in my vision, yet I have blurred vision. I fight daily with episodes of feeling depressed, getting mad at my family for no reason. I do not over prescribe myself and take prescriptions as told, but I know something isn't right with me. My speech I studder and everything. I am going for a Neurology consulting appointment next week, that I've been trying to fight and get, and have finally gotten. Now as I said I do currently have a attorney, but she is my attorney for my SSI case...and I would not want to jepordize my two year fight being so close to my hearing date.

I was prescribed Gabapentin by a bone and joint specialist for shoulder pain from what seemed like a pulled muscle. 30 day supply. Summer of 2015. I stopped taking it after 3 weeks, when I started feeling like I had dementia. Confusion, fussy headed, loss of balance. Started having eye problems at same time. Often want to shut and don't want to open again. Reported the neurological symptoms to all of my doctors at the time, and that I contributed it to Gabapentin. All acted surprised and said it was a safe drug, and discounted my complaints. I was 65 at the time so maybe they just figured my symptoms were all from old age. Eye Dr just contributed eye problems to Chronic Dry eye. Have used all types of eye drops with no relief.

Pfizer knows very well the horrible side effects and the addictive qualities of gabapentin. I've had an Rx since Fall of '17, ALSO I've had kidney failure and dialysis in that time. Many, many trips to ER. Several days in the hospital.. One mistake led to another. Doctors? Walmart Farmacy?......now addicted to Rx of 8,400 mg daily. Dr. has me on a "plan" o drop 1000 a week.
This ain't no bull shirt story. I got full acknowledgment/documentation with a signed pharmacy printout. I wanna speak to a legal counselor. Anyone?

I have many of the side effects each person has listed. I also have distorted thoughts where I use to be intelligent now I I'm lucky if I can remember a simple recipe. I am searching on this website for a more detailed list of side effects. If anyone can tell me how and where to find them I would appreciate that. I have been on Neurontin for about 7 years. Started taking it right after my double fusion in my back. I found it interesting that one person above mentioned tooth decay. I have been suffering from this recently along with liver damage. All due to the medications I have had to take since the auto accident in 2011. Multiple surgeries later I am more depressed than ever and now wonder if I ever had a chance to recover emotionally, considering the side effect of depression for Neurontin.

I have been on Neurontin 300mg @ 1800mg per day got 18 yrs and am still on it as prescribed. I have extreme memory loss, short and long term, I have fluid on the left side of my brain and seems to be growing in size. I can not keep my legs still at night, very restless and painful. My feet hurt constantly and I lost all my teeth because of this medicine. I have been loosing some sight in my left eye and it’s very painful at times. 18 yrs is a LONG time on one medicine that the doctors WILL NOT take me off. Any help, ideas or suggestions would be beneficial to me. I am a poor, disabled, simple Person in chronic pain everyday. I am depressed and I feel suicidial at times from all this that’s happened to me thanks to a drug that was suppose to help me.

My PCP prescribed Gabapentin for neuropathy in my feet and legs, which I had been suffering with for approximately ten years. The pain was becoming intolerable. She felt that the Gabapentin would help. After gradually increasing the dosage to 1800 mg a day I still had little relief.

After approximately eight months on the Gabapentin, I began having severe sensitivity in my upper teeth. Exrays done by my dentist to diagnose the sensitivity showed all my upper teeth were decaying from the inside out. My dentist asked if I was on any new medication and, when I told him I was on Gabapentin, he informed me that a side effect of this medication is tooth rotting! I have now had to have all my top teeth removed, implants and dentures. This has devastated me financially as I am retired and on very limited social security. I am not struggling to save my bottom teeth by going every three months for exrays. So far I've been lucky with this.

I truly wish SOMEONE had told me this was a possible side effect of Gabapentin. I NEVER would have taken that first pill.

So many drugs are TOXIC. See a Licensed Toxicologist if you can find one. I took Gabapentin 100mg daily for lumbar neuropathy and headaches for 2 days only because I had a migraine and lethargy caused by this bad drug. Next toxic drug is AVELOX(quinolone). Stay away from ALL QUINOLONES.(Levaquin,Avelox,Cipro) Causes life altering disorders!! Another TOXIC drug is Topamax, used for headaches,as well as anticonvulsant. I had a seizure after taking it for 3 days! There are many older drugs that are so much safer and effective, but docs want to prescribe newer drugs that are very costly and haven't been observed long enough for serious reactions! Shame on the FDA as well as the manufacturers!! They know ,but would rather get richer than provide consumers with safe effective meds and devices! I would sue the FDA if I could!! Good luck to all people suffering from the toxic effects of so many bad drugs!!!

I have had many side affects from long term use of Gabapentin - some minor, some more serious, and some very serious!
In short; I could write a book on how much grief Gabapentin has caused me - so much unnecessary human pain and suffering - So much! I have been on Gabapentin for many years and I have many injuries because of it. I feel that, if ever there were a case against Gabapentin it is mine.
I would like to be contacted by the firm handling this lawsuit/or know ware to send my book-like letter.

Was put on Gabapentin 2 1/2 years ago for AIDP (Acute Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy) and Acute Motor and Sensory Axonal Neuropathy. Six months after starting Gabapentin my doctor raised the dose to max dose of 1500 mg 3 times a day. the following month my legs and feet hurt so much so that I could no longer touch the floor with my feet without an extreme amount of pain. One month later I began having non-convulsive seizures with status epilepticus. Right before I fall into a non convulsive seizure, my face turns red, nose runs and the muscles contract so much so that I end up in a fetal position. This happens daily, multiple times a day. Over the course of the last two years I have suffered from double vision, swollen face, Mania and hyperactive thinking (I refer to this as spastic), forgetfulness, a viral infection breaking out every 3 to 4 weeks, muscle pain, fluid retention in the legs and feet, loss of memory, decreased lung function, altered sex drive, chronic trouble sleeping, nausea, jerky movements, difficulty with coordination and unusual eye movements.

I 2007 I was diagnosed with S1 radiculopathy. At first I was prescribed a low dose gabapentin, then as the pain continued to get worse the dosage went up. I topped out at 300mg 3 pills 3 times a day. I began to experience lethargy, restlessness, weight gain, nausea and vomiting. It got to the point where I became depressed and thought about suicide. When I told my doctor that I didn't want to take it anymore as it wasn't helping and the side effects were getting worse, she told me there was nothing else she could prescribe me. I gradually stepped myself down and was off the meds by 2011. But now, I experience infrequent hand tremors, memory fog, and low muscle tone in my right foot.

Jan 9, 2019 I blacked out in my kitchen, my dad had to call 911, I fractured a rib on my left side and there was no explanation for why I blacked out. In the past 2 weeks I've had extreme pressure across my chest, NOT rib pain. No not anxiety or panic attacks. It's very different than those! I've also started to get kidney pain. I've passed many stones over the years but nothing in the past year. Not sure if any of this has anything to do with the gabapentin. Was on gabapentin for diabetic nerve pain in around may 2015. Coma by June 2015, she is still not fully recovered. Went into hospital put on life support September. Went home October in diapers and a wheel chair. She was 26 with 2 small kids, now she is 29 her kids gone and she has to fight to get out of bed every day. This medicine took away here life. We have most of her medical records from the coma.

I've taken neuroton for several years even tried Lyrica. I had to come off Lyrica and go back to neuroton due to Lyrica side effects. I've developed twitching frequently, anger issues, even got mad and slit my wrists. My memory and attention span is horrible. I hold 3 college degrees and can't even think clear enough to keep my thoughts together. I was given these to curve opiates. The withdrawals from Lyrica were worse than opiates. The withdrawals from neuroton are awful also. What can I do, is their treatment to help. Will the drug companies pay for it

I was prescribed gabapentin in early April for peripheral neuropathy. The side of effects have really changed my life. My interaction with friends and family is complete different. I have tried to get off it twice but every time I get off it my side effects really affect my movement and concentration.

I live in a shelter and I am having problems because of the side effects.

Is there any help I can get on this issue.

Thanks.

What they don't tell you, is that Neurontin (gabapentin) will cause your teeth to rot from the inside out! I never had problems with my teeth, as I did following being prescribed Neurontin! I had been prescribed this drug since around 2003, with intermittent breaks to try Lyrica, when that got approved. It never really helped the pain, but I continued to take it, as prescribed. Around 6 months after I started taking it, I had lost my first tooth, due to it rotting from the inside out. It was all downhill from there, and now at 35, I've been in a full denture for over 2 years now, because of this drug!

I have been on gabapentin for 5 years. I have run out a couple times and had no bad side effects, no withdrawal symptoms.
I have not had any severe side effects from taking this medication. I take 2700mgs a day for severe peripheral neuropathy in my feet, legs, hands and arms. This medication helps me greatly. I'm afraid of what would happen if gabapentin is taken away from patients. There is no other medication available that helps with nerve pain other than lyrica and I can't take that. Even if I did have some side effects, i would still take gabapentin because the relief it gives my neuropathy pain is more important to me.
Chronic pain alone has caused many people to want to commit suicide.
Why aren't there more medications for neuropathy/nerve pains? Because the drug makers don't care because they think it's not a life threatening problem. But it it a life threatening problem if people can't handle the pain they're in and kill themselves for relief.
Anyway, that's my experience with gabapentin.

I was prescribed gabapentin for my fibromyalgia and have been taking it for 5 years now. I told my GP that I didn't want to take anything addicting and he assured me this was a better alternative medicine than taking opioids. That I wouldn't become addicted and I realized about a couple years ago that it wasn't true. I am not sure he lied to me or if he was misinformed as well. But I feel lied to and roped in. I haven't abused it but I am in fear of the withdraws if I stop taking it. I have now learned it is now a controlled substance and has to be monitored. I went to pick up my prescription the other day and found out I was denied because my doctor needs to see me to monitor. I am completely out now and suffering. By the time i get into this appointment i feel I might be over the hardest part of the withdraws. I dont even want to be on this crap. I'd like to free myself from this situation. I feel completely lost by this mess. A mess I never willingly wanted to take apart in. I feel violated.

I have been taking Neurontin since 2013 for seizures and my teeth began to deteriorate. I have spent thousands of dollars on teeth repair. I am going today after another tooth cracked and broke to my physician to see about a different medication. Every time by the time the dentist would get my complete set of teeth done another crack or cavity would show up. This should be against the law.

My daughter took her life in March, 2018. She had been prescribed Gabapenton/ Neurotin by her doctor in early February in addition to other depression meds she was taking. He was also treating her for infection in her lung with antibiotic. As she began to increase the dosage as advised she changed. I was amazed at the memory loss, anger, inability to communicate her thoughts and she became extremely paranoid. She gave no indication of her intent to take her life, just left home, found a place and did it. I will never believe anything other than Gabapenton damaged her ability to process her thoughts clearly.. Believe it to be a very dangerous drug !

I am very active person I am Bi-polar, have hereditary migraines, bone spurs in my neck, degenerative disc disease with spinal stenosis in my lower back and non epileptic seizures induced by anxiety and stress. I'm currently on 25 mg of Topamax twice a day for migraines and Gabapentin 300 mg 3 times a day and Ibuprofen 800 mg every 8 hrs for the rest, my hostility has increased according to my family and myself, my anger flares fast and is hard to control, I'm having more Bi-polar hi's that are causing serious crashes when I hit my Bi-polar low which increases my pain. My daily pain level has increased since starting the Gabapentin, my concentration is suffering, my joint pain seems to have more flare ups, I'm unsteady on my feet. I tend to have a lot of nausea when standing. I have days were I get confused about simple things or task, I am on 48 years old but I feel like I'm 80 most days.

I was prescribed gabapentin two and a half years ago for joint pain. I was told it was a safe alternative to other pain meds and there were few side effects. I started having terrible hot flashes to the point that I could not function. The dose was increased up to 3200 mg a day, because I was told it helps hot flashes. The hot flashes got worse. Then I started having panic attacks, which increased in intensity. I was prescribed additional medications to deal with the hot flashes and panic attacks. I had to drop out of school, give up my hobbies, and I stopped going out. I was in a certificate program that has to be completed within 5 years. My time has now run out, so I have lost everything I worked for. My behavior became crazier and I ran up a huge amount of debt in a very short time by shopping online. I started hoarding clothing, and anything else that I thought I might need. I couldn't remember things, and I frequently became confused. My blood sugar skyrocketed and I was told that I was a diabetic and had to take diabetic medications. My teeth kept breaking, and I had to have 3 fillings, 2 extractions, a root canal, 5 crowns and a bridge within a few months. I later found out that the blood sugar and dental problems are known side effects of gabapentin. I have lost most of my friends, because of this medication. One time I drove somewhere and I couldn't remember how to get home. My muscles became weak, and I injured my toe trying to get out of the shower, because I could not lift my leg. My heart was pounding all the time, and I have Congestive Heart Failure, so I was terrified that I was going to die. My sister had been taking gabapentin and she passed away in her sleep. I became more terrified and I knew I had to get off of it. I suffered two and a half months of the most horrible withdrawal. I was shaking, hot flashes, chills, leg cramps, restless legs, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, and weakness. The stress of the withdrawal made my left hip joints flare, so I am now in a lot of pain and it is difficult to walk. I took this drug for 2 and a half years, and the worse part of it all is that it never helped me with my joint pain.

I was on gabapentin sonce 2006 I was prescribed to take 3 300 mgs 3 times a day. 2,700 mgs a day im 5'7 and weigh 130 pounds. His treatment after attempted suicide was lamotrigine. My daughter happened to work for a someone who was in the medical field then moved on to natural healings and remedies. I had no idea i could die over withdrawal from gabapentin! I also had no idea that my daughter and her boss was calling my doctor continuously at both his practices in alaska and California. I had 7 refills left, i picked up my refills every week. I get there and they were pulled with put notice or future appointments made. Its been a very very hard 8 weeks since my last gabapentin. I suffer terrible cramping throughout my body. My stomach gives me problems with everything i eat. Insomnia and itching drives me insane at times. I like to think the worst is over yet there is no difference yet from week 1 to now

My son was switched from his regular prescription (haladol) to gabapentin for his already bipolar with schizophrenia affect. I took him to hospital several times indicating his suicidal thoughts and actions he was involuntarily held at one point because of my insistence that something was wrong and different against my will he was released a week later my son was killed that very day by a car. I had contacted an attorney who told me he couldn't take the case due to looking at the video and although not a clear one it might look intensional and since he was just released from hospital that maybe I should look into a different type of attorney. I received a letter from the superior court dated 11/9/17 that the court dat for involuntary commitment will be held on 11/15/17 I received the letter 11/11/17 my son died 11/10/17.

I was in a HMMWV accident in July 2016. Long story short, the steel trap door that the soldier stands in on the roof of the vehicle is where I was standing. We hit a slight dip in the road, going 35 at about a 30% downgrade on the Hill. The door of that “trap door” is about 250lbs+, and it came down and smashed me in the head. I braved myself with my right hand so I wouldnt fall (**very important) The accident made me two inches shorter. Fast forward, I was treated for “breaking my hand” for 4 months, and I kept telling ALL the doctors I was hit in the head. Was prescribed gaubapentin for my hand... never checked for my head or spine... went to 3600mg a day within that 4 month period, and all the symptoms I had only made my life 100x worse. During physical therapy I could not stand straight, and the PT administrator ordered a c-spine x-ray. Turns out my entire spine has been compressed. I was prescribed the gaubapentin just for pain relief... and now almost two years later my stomach just is not the same. Because of how horrific an experience I had, I refuse any treatment that involves a possible adverse effect; I get injections every two weeks now. And they only have addressed my c-spine. As a Sergeant in the greatest Army in the world, the memory loss makes it incredibly difficult to do my job sometimes, but thank you to modern technology I have retrained and acclimated myself. Thanks to the accident, I have lost 96% of use of my right hand from my fingertips to my elbow, and I am still going strong. My question is, will the side effects that I experienced on the medication ever go away? It’s been almost two years!

My wife has been on Neurontin for maybe 15 years, maybe more. She has had 2 failed back surgeries due to a slip & fall on ice. The Neurontin Rx is for 2 300mg pills every 6 hours. She has so many symptoms which are identical to the problems the people in this forum state that there's no point in listing them.
Until I read the little editor's note in Consumer's Report of January, 2018 about this drug, I had no knowledge of this problem.
Tomorrow I'm sending the fraud article and all these comments to her primary physician. I have no doubt he knows nothing about this issue.
I have been reducing her dosage and it is now down to 2 300 mg capsules daily.
I don't know if there will be a negative result to ending the use of this "medicine", or if there will ever be an improvement in her condition, but I have to try.
The worst thing is she says she tells me things which she doesn't and then gets furious when I tell her she didn't say what she believes she said. To avoid her over the top reaction, I just make up an excuse like I didn't hear her or something. It's getting worse over time.
Count us in for the lawsuit if it ever happens.

I was prescribed nuerontin/gabapentin 7 yrs ago for anxiety. Which also causes anxiety. At the time it was only approved for seizures& brain injuries.I had neither& physically my health was 100% prior to medication outside of anxiety due to PTSD. 6 months into taking medication I realized the painful side effects I'd been experiencing in my hands&feet were due to medication. I have permanent nerve damage in my hands& feet and have been properly diagnosed 7yrs ltr finally. It took 7 yrs for Drs to listen to me& get me to the right Drs fornthe right test which finally proved what I'd been trying to tell them the whole time before I was sent to a nuerologist& had proper test to proove severe nerve damage Peripheral Nueropathy in both hands and feet. This medication gave me permanent nerve damage that it is ironically used to relieve the pain symptoms of. I had no nerve damage or pain or nueropathy& edema prior to using.medication. It has destroyed my life as I went from a.selfsufficient hard working woman to a disabled person unable to work or function normally due to constant pain(when your nerves stop working right the brain sends pain to the parts of your body being used hand or feet to let your body know those parts of your body are active. So when you stand pain goes to the damaged nerves in your feet or use your hands to the damaged nerves in your hands to keep your body functioning). There are days I am unable to get out of bed and have only myself my one small 600.00 a month disability check and foodstamps that I now have to rely on to survive. was not on welfare prior to this. What are my rights.

My primary diagnosed pain through-out my right arm as RSI. She prescribed 400mg 3x/day and referred me to a physician specializing in musculoskeletal health.

The second doctor would/could not confirm RSI yet was certain of fibromyalgia symptoms. She agreed with my primary's dose. Once the pain has diminished, from taking the Neurontin, she would then be able determine additional diagnoses.

So ... 2 different diagnoses ... Neurontin prescribed for both, neither of which has FDA approval.

Bottom-bottom line .... I AM STILL IN PAIN. The pain has not "diminished." I feel drunk. Everything I touch, I spill. I have a very addictive personality and was assured (twice) that this drug would not be a problem. FALSE I'm watching myself mouth off, which is not who I've been for many years. My memory .... finding words to speak in sentences is extremely difficult, not to mention embarrassing.

And now it's very clear that getting off of the RX is going to be a bitch. Just shaking my head.

So that's my rant.

I have had Fibromyalgia for 20 yrs. The last 4 yrs. have been the worst. I can barely walk and the muscle spasms make me scream in pain. In July of @016 I began seeing a new GP. He talked me into trying Gabapentin even though I was against it after gaining 75 lbs. from Lyrica. He had me take 3 100mg capsules at night. I immediately began to swell and my moods were horrible. He took me off of it and wrote on my chart that I have Gabapentin intolerance. In May of 2017, after a yr. on a wait list I saw a new Rheumatologist. He came into the room, didn't look at or speak to me. He went straight to his computer, he did come over and pressed 2 fingers on my shoulders, he never saw me walk nor did he ask any questions. He handed me a prescription for 3600 mgs. of gabapentin a day with 11 refills. I asked if he'd checked my records and informed him of my intolerance, he said I'd be fine. When I got home I called my insurance company and the hospital he works for. When I saw my GP I was in tears from the pain,he suggested I try it again but not 3600 mgs. When I went to get my prescription the Dr. had changed it to 2700 mgs. From the moment I started taking it I felt awful. I was swollen, gaining weight, extremely depressed and not myself. I suffer from chronic migraines and vertigo as well. On or about August 6th my migraine and vertigo were killing me, I saw my GP and he prescribed something for nausea. From the 6th until the 15th of August I kept getting worse, couldn't eat, sleep and I was very paranoid. I had been vomiting non stop so I couldn't get any medicine down. I couldn't think clearly, I wrote notes saying I did not want to be resuscitated . I didn't take anything or try to kill myself but I couldn't go on with the agony. 911 was called and I was taken to the hospital, I don't remember much but I guess I was having crazy hallucinations. Nobody had ever informed me that Gabapentin is not approved as a treatment for Fibro and if you've been on it and miss even a dose you can go into withdrawal, the same as a heroin addict detoxing. I stayed at that hospital for 2 days then was transferred to a Psychiatric Hospital. When I came around and started to remember bits and pieces I knew it was the Gabapentin that caused this. I stayed in that horrible place for 7 days, that's 9 days total. As soon as I got home I started researching Gabapentin, what I experienced has happened many times. It's no better than rat poison. I was on it less than 3 months but it feels like years. My life is changed forever, I feel truly traumatized by this incident. It will follow me around for the rest of my life. I would like to see what I can do. Do I have a case? If so, against who? The Dr. and or Pfizer? I won't let this go. I have been treated like the scum of the earth for years, made to feel like a drug addict although I don't take any meds and I've never once begged a Dr. for any. I'm fighting back but I need help. Thank you

Karen... I want to be included in a class-action lawsuit against the makers on Neurontin but don't know how to get a hold of you. I was prescribed the drug from 1996-2016 at doses passed 5000 mg, which is even higher than allowed in a PDR but the neurologist approved it. I have had severe trouble with memory and have trouble thinking of what words to use. I am only 49 and was starting to question if I had dementia or something similar. I also have trouble focusing on anything. It's very hard for me to get through a project of any kind. I use to be quick, witty, with a great memory. Not anymore. I would appreciate any help getting a lawsuit started. I can also be reached by email at tfrechea720 at gmail.com. Thank you and I am sorry to the rest of you that are going through similar issues.

I was given neurontin for rsd early 2000's. After one dose I wandered around my house looking for my cat. I then went outside to look and felt compelled to go stand in the street. My husband found me headed for the busy county road we lived on and brought me back inside. I told him I wanted to stand in the street, I need to stand in the street. He showed me the cat asleep on the bed where it had been all morning, where I looked several times and then he watched me for the rest of the day. I was calm and showed no outward sign of anything wrong.
This drug is terrifying, even after one dose. It is now a first treatment at veterinarians for animal pain. Stay Away form it!
A decade before another doctor gave me tegratol for nerve pain. Again I took one dose. I had a compulsion to go and kill the doctor. I was stopped from leaving the house, I was dead set on killing my doctor even though it was Saturday night and I did not know where he lived. Again I was perfectly calm and had I not verbalized my intentions both times who knows what would have happened- both times only one dose.

I was given neurontin for neuropathy pain in both legs. After about 1 1/2-2 yrs I started having balance trouble, I couldn't THINK, I was making choices as if I was a 13 year old. You know ,making the wrong choice, knowing it, and doing it anyway. I suddenly started getting severe anxiety and panic attacks. I would go to brush my teeth and couldn't find the toothpaste that was front and center on the counter next to the faucet. I was after my doctor for answers, got none. After months of misery I started reading all the side effects of all my medication s. As soon as I read all of neuronton I had my answers. I started weaning off of it slowly. After 4 months I was off it and feeling much better , more leg pain, but better. It's been a few years now and I still struggle with memory problems, short term memory loss, and it's VERY difficult to learn new things. I'm 56 and worry a great deal on how this could affect my senior years.

I was prescribed gabapentin/neurontin in 2011 for neuropathic pain in my right arm. In 2013 it was discovered that I have thoracic outlet syndrome due to extra cervical ribs. Had surgery. Had ulnar nerve release. Had carpal tunnel surgery. All the while my dosage was increased to 3600mg/day. I would have major mood swings: full blown temper and throwing things to turning into crying hysterically. Felt like I was watching myself from above. Told all docs about this, and was told that it was 'the safest drug out there.' Was hospitalized in Aug, 2016 after a 'rage' episode. Wasn't until a good friend of mine said she had gone through similar experience. I was having multiple psychotic episodes a week. Weaned myself off in 5 days. Won't touch it again. and, it really didn't relieve the pain that much.....

Is there a current lawsuit to join? I was given Neurontin a couple years ago for nerve pain in my right leg due to herniated discs in the l4 and l5. Had 2 surgery to relieve pressure off the nerve but I need a fusion to fix it. I suffer memory loss, simple things I forget. I've walked into stores to shop and forget what I went in for. There is a list of things, including spelling easy words. I have no motivation anymore, I use to workout daily. Id rather sit and do nothing. Is there anything to reverse these effects? I have stopped taking this medication but am still having issues.

I was prescribed neurontin for years after my wreck in 2012. Since then, over time I noticed memory loss, headaches, dizziness, fatigue, confusion, depression. Was even prescribed cymbalta for the depression. Was told neurontin was for nerve and chronic pain and inflammation. And that cymbalta was for depression and also helps with nerve pain. I just recemtly stopped neurontin in Nov.2016. I seen commercial on tv about these meds and am concerned.

My husband is taking Gabapentin for chronic pain for about a year or more...
He has the following problems since taking Gabapentin..
memory loss, hostility, unsteadiness, depression, abnormal thinking, incoordination, dizziness, drowsiness, water retention, nausea and/or vomiting, ataxia (inability to control muscles), and super fatigue...
Plus he still has most of the chronic pain that he started out with and his doctor just says "keep taking the Gabapentin... Right now he takes 1800mg per day and the doctor wants him to increase that dose which my husband has not done because it hasn't really helped up to this point..

My elderly mother lives alone other than a gentleman paid to spend nights at her house in case of an emergency. After a hip surgery, the rehab doctor prescribed Gabapentin for restless leg syndrome and for more than a year now she has been terribly depressed, hopeless, and suicidal. She has cancer as well and her oncologist will not prescribe an antidepressant because of her age. Is there anything you can do to help her?

I have a family member that went from saving every penny earned to having a severe gambling problem while on Neutrontin. After doing research I have found that even with all the studies done proving this is a serious side affect, there is no legal responsibility to the company. This drug has caused severe hardship and I'm looking for any advice...I have already spoken to two lawyers who have told us that it's too much of a risk for them.

I was prescribed Gabapentin approximately 2/3 years ago. I was supposed to take 3 100 mg capsules at bedtime. They made me have a stomach ache and not be able to sleep. I asked if I could cut the dose , I then tried 2 capsules and finally down to 1.. This week I am not taking it at all. I have had memory loss in so much as I forget common words and places and names. I had none of this before the drug. It was prescribed for pain, and I was told it would help me sleep.....It did neither.

After reading a feature article in the August 2016 issue of Consumer Reports "Is There A Cure For High Drug Prices?" page 53. I learned on page 60 at the end of the article that the funding for the preparation was provided in part by two grants, one of which is Prescriber Education Grant Program, which is funded by the multistate settlement of consumer-fraud claims regarding the marketing of the prescription drug Neurontin (gabapentin).

I have been on 1200 mg per day for a few years of Gabapentin. I have been concerned about my short term memory loss, unsteadiness, dizziness, peripheral neuropathy and restless leg syndrome.

Thanks to the information mentioned above, I now have valid reasons for the side effects caused by Gabapentin.

I am on 2700mg of Gabapentin daily. I suffer extreme memory loss.

I have a very rare brain/spinal cord disease (Neuro Myelitis Optica)
For the last 10 years at 4500 mg my brain is having HUGE cognitive
Memory issues, even though my MRI is stable, I have had 3 brain attacks, where I lost memory (how to play the flute, edit podcasts etc)
I just found out that Gabapentin is so successful, because it prevents brain synapses from forming. Brain Synapses are the very thing you need to fight a rare brain disease by making NEW connections and if you can't make new connections your brain dies. They promoted this drug off label for chronic pain. It works, but at what cost?!

I have herniated discs. I also have all the pain and numbness that go with it. I took Gabapentin for 9 months and forgot what I was driving and what it was called that I was doing. I have whole events that I do not remember.

I was on this drug for severe pain management for approximately 2 years. I did not realise how bad he side effects can be. I suffer not only from memory loss/lapses I also suffer from a rare condition known as "false memory syndrome" (Not alien abduction or "recessive memories" after therapy - which is pretty much all there is when you Google it LOL).
These problems got worse on Gabapentin & I am still suffering with these issues. I can't work mainly due to pain, but with the mental issues this has drug has aggravated work would be impossible.
Now any new meds I'm put on I not only read the enclosed leaflets, but go on line & do research too.

I suffered from severe depression, which is still ongoing, and I had to go see a counselor. I also could not hold up my head well, and used to fall asleep during conversation, meals, or driving. I had memory lapses, and still have a lot of problems with my memory. One time I blacked out and five hours had gone by and I thought it had only been about an hour. I often went in and out of conscious state.

After being ramped up to 2400mg of Neurontin daily I became fixated on death and dying. I also became worried that I was about to "snap" and do something terrible. It was constantly on my mind, I couldn't NOT think about death. I took myself down to 800mg a day and the thoughts went away within 24 hours. But now my pain levels are back to pre-Neurontin days, which is very hard to take.
