Limeno Recalls Rico Queso Duro Blanco in Florida

Lake Worth, FL: Limeno LLC is recalling its 16 ounce packages of Rico Queso duro blanco (white hard cheese) distributed by Flores Food of America because they may be contaminated with salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.

Healthy persons infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with salmonella can result in the organism getting into the blood- stream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The product comes in a 16 ounce, clear plastic package under the Rico Queso name brand. The recalled cheese was distributed in the state of Florida in local retail stores.

The contamination was discovered after routine testing by the Florida Deparment of Agriculture and Consumer Services revealed the presence of Salmonella. The production has been suspended while the company continues their investigation as to the source of the problem.
