Legionnaire's Bacteria Sickens Patients in Atlanta Hospital

Four people are reportedly ill with Legionnaire's disease which they contracted while being treated at Atlanta's Grady Memorial hospital.

Test results from water samples taken from the hospital were positive for the potential deadly bacteria in rooms on the 2 floors where the patients became ill with the disease. The tests indicate the presence of bacteria in the bathroom areas and not air vents.

While no evidence of the bacteria was found anywhere else in the hospital, 80 beds are currently off limits while staff disinfect the affected areas.

Legionnaire's bacteria can cause deadly pneumonia, however, it is not spread from person to person, but rather from inhaling contaminated water vapor or mist that could come from a shower, or air conditioning systems, spas, or whirlpools.
