LA Wildfires Bring Widespread Destruction

1,200 People Evacuated

Three thousand acres of Southern California is ablaze this morning, as strong Santa Ana winds whipped up a pre-existing wildfire burning over the weekend. The winds caused the fire to jump its existing boundaries, resulting in the closure of a major freeway. Mobile homes and industrial buildings in the path of the fire have been destroyed.

Just 20 miles north downtown Los Angeles, the fire has so far scorched 3,712 acres. Some 1,200 people have were evacuated over the weekend, some in the middle of the night.

With the exception of the deserts, state officials have declared a 'fire weather watch' for Monday and Tuesday, for all of Southern California.
