Fraudulent Investment/Business Schemes

Across the country, fraudulent schemes abound. In many of these schemes, often called "Ponzi" or "pyramid" schemes, people are promised healthy returns, when in reality the investment or business is nothing but a sham. For example, in one such scheme, investors were told their money was going into a mutual fund called "Cyprus Funds," which would conservatively invest their money in Latin American companies for a reasonable but steady return.

The investors received checks for "returns" for years until the checks started bouncing, and they learned that Cyprus Funds was a sham, and their investments - often their lives' savings - had been stolen (For further examples see some described at the nonprofit National Fraud Information Center's website, www.fraud.org)

We investigate such situations and determine whether the defrauded investors can recover, typically from institutional professionals (banks, lawyers, accountants, brokers) who assisted in the scam.
