Harley Davidson Will Face Class Action Over Hot Engines

Valenica, CA: A defective products class action lawsuit against Harley Davidson, filed by four bikers who allege their Harley Davidson motorcycles were defectively designed, can go forward.

The class action lawsuit claims that the Harley Davidson engines run so hot that they pose a constant danger to riders in that the engines cause burns and are therefore not fit for their intended use.

The complaint alleges that since 1999, Twin Cam 88, 96, 103 and 110 cubic inch engines in Harley motorcycles produce severe, excessive heat causing clothing to catch on fire, burn injuries and the danger of burn injury to riders and passengers as well as overheating causing premature engine wear and in models manufactured after 2006, transmission failure.

Although Harley Davidson asked the Eastern District of California court to throw out the claims under state law, a U.S. District Judge sided with the bikers. The recent ruling allows the case to move forward, and Harley Davidson will now face Class Action Certification process at the end of the month.

Bought new 2017 of that yr soft tail slim s 110 engine can’t enjoy bike gets extremely HOT dangerously so disappointed my first HD bike was really happy buying this bike complain to sales man right away he said bike was ok n buy heat shield I did after riding just a little got scared BC bike started getting dangerously hot again going on 4yrs asking other dealerships they said people are complaining also about this bike after riding about 45 miles or so bike wouldn’t start called HD person said yes this bike get HOT heat Sheld took shape of bike HD should be held responsible for this defective product please help all people who bought this bike get compensated really felt like I was taking payments all on time paying for a bike I can’t even enjoy HD Best Bike Out on market top of the line wow I really hate that I bought this bike but really would like a oil or liquid cool bike just compensate me so I can get a new n better bike !!!!

I wish they would start a class action lawsuit for the neutral rattle all the money I paid it sounds like a can of bolts rattling around in the transmission. 15000 miles I've had to replace a lifter , compensator and now this I will never buy one of there pieces of junk again.

My husband has a scar from where he has repeatedly burned his inner thigh on his electraglide. He always wears jeans and is a true biker and not the occasional rider. He has to consciously be aware on his bike, but can't always avoid hitting the pipe when stopped on the bike and then reburns himself.

Obviously there are experienced riders on here and people that are familiar with Harley's well I know this first hand we personally experienced an issue with a 2016 Roadglide no modification completely knew bike, the exhaust pipe was so hot and the radiator fan not once blew cooled off. No burn marks through some thick jeans however suffered 3rd/4th degree burns...So the leg never touched the pipe, however the heat was so tremondous that it began to cook the flesh. According to Harley the bikes are suppose to shut down once too hot! Well this bike didnt! So do I file a suit??? Hell yea! There was a defect in a brand new bike with only 56miles on it!

I am 54 years old riding Harley says 1983 I purchased a brand new 2012 FLHTC this bike is unreasonably hot sitting in traffic oil pressure drops to nothing oil light flashes must pull over stop the bike let it rest for an hour before proceeding I will be taking catalytic converters off the pipes that should solve the problem 2012 motorcycles poorly designed and dangerous to ride because if it's heat situation

Bike continually overheats in traffic dropping oil pressure to dangerously low must pull over for an hour I will be seeking to have the catalytic converter removed to solve this problem it is dangerous and problematic to the motor

I own a 2015 limited still under warrenty i have what harley calls it neutral rattle the local dealer will not repair the problem nor will harley davidson i have heard a lot of other owners are having the same problem after paying over $25,000 dollars and still under warranry i feel it is unfair for harley not to take care of this problem.

what about the problem with the compensation nut? I have a2008 flhcui and every rider and mechanic i have talked to said the compenastion nut will fail, its just a matter of time. My mechanic has 2 bikes in his shop now replacing them with the new and improved parts.

my 2007 classic gets hot sitting in traffic burns my thigh even when wearing dungarees it even wants to stall have to get off to let it cool down

my 2012 Harley Roadking burned my leg so bad it was leaking yellow puss for two weeks , I was wearing shorts like a dumbass but heat sheilds obviously do nothing Thanks
