Ford Faces Class Action over Alleged Defective Spark Plugs

Miami, FL: A defective products class action lawsuit has been filed on behalf of Plaintiff Eduardo Pezzi and similarly situated Florida class members against Defendant Ford Motor Company. The complaint alleges that Ford used defective spark plugs that were covered by Ford's Technical Service Bulletin 08-7-6 in Ford F-150 trucks, Ford Mustangs, Ford Explorers, Ford Expeditions, Lincoln Navigators, Lincoln Mark LTs, and Mercury Mountaineers model years 2004 to 2008.

According to the suit, the defective plugs break or snap during the removal process, leaving a substantial portion of the defective plug lodged in the cylinder head, substantially increasing the costs of changing spark plugs. Class members have been required to spend hundreds, and in many instances, thousands of dollars more than they should have to pay to remove the broken spark plugs and in some cases, repair damage to the engines caused by the removal process.

In addition to excessive maintenance costs, the defective spark plug problem may also reduce the value of the vehicles. The suit further alleges Ford knew about the defect and issued at least three Technical Service Bulletins concerning the defective spark plugs and related engine defects.

After receiving complaints from US customers, the company developed its own special tool and procedure to remove the defective plugs, and even after a replacement spark plug was developed, it continued to manufacture, sell and lease the covered vehicles with the defects alleged in the class action providing no notice to Plaintiff or class members about the defective spark plugs and related engine defects. More than 240,000 of these covered vehicles were sold or leased in Florida.

I recently broke down in Colorado , on my way to Las Vegas to get married, i was able to have My 2005
Mustang GT looked at Summit Ford Dillon,CO., where they determined i had spark plugs , miss firing in two cylinders and a bad fuel pump, I had to rent a car to proceed with my trip and gave them permission to tune up the car , two days later while i am still in Las Vegas, i call Summit Ford and the mechanic tells me i need to replace the passenger side cylinder head because the spark plug broke off in the head and there was no seat left for a new plug left,, Ford and Summit Ford, RUINED my beautiful car They wanted me to pay more for the car to fix it then what i even paid for it, I love Ford but i am seriously getting pissed off at this company anymore

we have damage done to cylinder #3 due to broken spark plug on our 2007 ford explorer sport trac. We purchased this truck in 2014 and haven't received anything from Ford regarding this problem. We had 3 broken plugs and my son removed 2 successfully. After many hours of labor and renting the extraction kit still having problems. I need this vehicle to get my husband to medical appointments and physical therapy since his stroke. It is driveable but would be afraid to take it out of town. We can't afford to pay huge repair bills.

I'm on the West coast. Does anyone know if there is anyone taking up a class suit on this side of the country?

I have a 2004 F140 Lariat 4x4 (5.4 Triton)...
I purchased this truck used. So far no issues mainly because I'm absolutely anal about maintenance.

I have not had the opportunity (sarc) to change my plugs yet, but after reading many horror stories about the plugs, I'm NOT looking forward to the experience.
I do all of my own work unless it involves tooling I don't have or a procedure I just can't do myself. I have done just about everything on a vehicle from axles to engines to you name it, so a spark plug job SHOULD be a walk in the park....

But not so with the Triton spark plugs it sounds like...

I prefer to do my own work, but in this case, Ford really screwed the pooch with these defective plugs and they KNEW it. They should fix their mess. I already have back problems as it is and what should be a simple afternoon job will no doubt turn into a nightmare. I'm the only driver in my family too, so if the plugs break when I finally replace them, how much down-time will I have? Certainly way more than it should.

Why on Earth did Ford change a simple part that has worked flawlessly for decades into a garbage 2-piece plug is beyond me. I've ran Fords all my adult life and up until now, I've never even thought of buying anything else.

I just yesterday received a letter, stating my claim was denied as I did not include the proper documentation or lack of. What I sent them was a copy of the Invoice the 1st time Now I have sent them the original with their original letter to me.
Nice way of trying to not pay. The letter did say to go online and fill out form...guess what no form was to be found, but I did enclose their letter, with all the original documentation. Now let's see what happens next since I am appealing their non payment of my claim. I will keep you all posted as to the outcome. Good Luck everyone!

I never got anything on this. I have a 2004 Ford Expedition 5.4L and I had the spark plugs replace and it was not a nice price for a single mother. I guess it went to my ex. I would like more information. I have been told by friends about it, but got nothing from Ford. can somebody help me? please I was told about this from a ford dealer that had to get 2 plugs out.

I had my spark plugs replaced in My F-150 (2006) months back. Then a couple of months later I received in the mail the class action lawsuit paperwork. I have since moved and misplaced the paperwork . I know the deadline to have it back was sometime in February. How can I get the papers replaced ? I have been all through this house looking. Ugh

I received a letter in mail that was about the class action law suit against ford for the spark plug issues and I have lost my papers. Can you tell me how or where to go to file for my part of the suit back? I know it said it was so much per spark plug or something?

We had problems with our spark plugs which were changed twice and very costly. I completed the claim form and now awaiting for reimbuirsement.

Lost work due to spark plugs misfire witch caused me to lose 905.00 so far to have diignosthdand and tuned up with new plugs .

Cost me $700 to get my plugs changed on my 2004 5.4 3 valve F150. 6 of the 8 plugs broke.

I BOUGHT MY F150 NEW. I HAVE HAD REGRETS EVERY SINCE. I'VE HAD TO REPLACE BRAKES, HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKES AND ROTORS AS THE BRAKES WERENT SEPARATE. THERE WAS A CLUNKING NOISE THAT WE THOUGHT WAS THE U-JOINTS, SO MY SON IN LAW ATTEMPTED TO CHANGE THE U-JOINTS. HE COULD NOT GET THE U-JOINT OUT. COME TO FIND OUT THE U-JOINT DOES NOT COME OUT, YOU HAVE TO BUY THE WHOLE DRIVE SHAFT. SO WE HAD A SHOP TO BASICALLY REBUILD IT. COSTLY. THEN TO OUR DISAPPOINTED WE STILL HAD THE CLUNKING SOUND. SO WE TOOK IT TO A LOCAL SHOP TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE CLUTCH IN THE TRANSMISSION. OH GREAT, WE CAN REPLACE OR REPAIR THE TRANSMISSION AT 100G MILES. SO I HAD IT REBUILT FOR A COST OF 2760.00. GREAT! PRIOR TO THAT I HAD TO PAY OVER 700 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE PLUGS AND CAPS AT 92G MILES DUE TO POOR RUN/IDLE/GAS MILEAGE, AND THEY BROKE 4 PLUGS GETTING THEM OUT, THATS WHY SO EXPENSIVE. THEN AFTER THAT REPAIR I HAVE HAD A KNOCK IN THE ENGINE WHICH I STILL HAVE TO THIS DAY. THIS VEHICHLE IS NOT DROVE ALOT BC AS OF NOW OCT. OF 2015 I ONLY HAVE 111G MILES ON IT. THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN ONE BIG EXPENSE AFTER ANOTHER. WOULD NOT BUY ANOTHER FORD PRODUCT.

I'm a self-employed vendor who relies on my 2011 Ford E 350 to make a living and in the past year and a half, have had three spark plugs blow. Each time it has cost me $ 350.00 to repair. The mechanic knows that this is an issue with this type of engine and at any time another one could blow. How is it that Ford hasn't issued a recall? This is absurd. We can't run a business without my truck and now my truck has become a money pit.

My spark plugs keep popping out of my cylinders. I have had to pay for towing twice already and was stranded on the side of the road. This is a very ridiculous situation for me to go through. I am a single father of three children. I depend on this truck to get us back and forth to school and work. I want this problem fixed cause I can't afford to buy another car.

Spark plug broke off in cylinder 5 while performing routine maintenance. Read about the defective spark plugs prior to maintenance. Took all precautions to avoid that. But still due to the ineffective nature of the design spark plug, head is still stuck in engine resulting in a vehicle that is inoperable. Also resulting in loss of pay due to work missed.

I have a 2006 Lincoln Navigator 4x4. Have had to change the spark plugs three times and coils at my expense. If you need any records please contact me. All three plug changes happened within 15k miles of each other. It’s been a complete nightmare.

I spent in excess of $400 on tools that I will not use again other than to help someone else remove spark plugs from a Triton 5.4L engine. I was not able to use my truck for two weeks and had to borrow another vehicle to commute to work.

Dealer could not remove spark plugs, causing me to have them replace the engine at a cost of $7,000.00. They would not guarantee a repair. As a carpenter, my truck being out of commission caused me a great financial loss.

My family has been w/out truck for many months. Doubling mileage on our 2nd truck(not a Ford), and not able to take whole family, since this is our only 8 person vehicle. Which I purchased to do just that!

Wow A simple spark plug replacement has now pushed me $3500 and climbing.
This is without question a disgrace FORD should be ashamed of their behavior and procedures for public safety.
I can almost guarantee the FORD motor people who also drive cars (perhaps not FORD) do not have these issues. They either dont drive a FORD or the cars and SUV's they drive have the defective plugs that don't pop out causing damage inside the engine to have motor cease. These defective Spark plugs from FORD break inside the motor which cost us the regular working class people $3500 plus plus plus to replace. Perhaps the FORD motor people don't have families themselves to worry about like husband, wife, children, mother, father basically the entire public population and lets not forget elderly people who also care about their safety. Maybe the people who build FORD and run FORD and collect FORD paychecks health insurance and benefits which the average American now a days does not have, are being driven in limos or BMWs since it is less likely they would have to pay for any spark plug issue.
Pease remember FORD MOTOR COMPANY the money it takes to fix your defective parts comes directly from the money it takes to feed our children, people in the family and keep the people who bought into FORD alive.
I will no longer be a FORD DRIVER GO foreign cars!!!!! American Ford motor company sucks dirt!

I recently tried changing my spark plugs at 60,000 miles. The very first one broke and now the ford dealership estimates that I will have to spend $4500 to repair the damage.
