Amerada Hess Corp. and AmSouth

With the rise of gas prices, Florida based gas stations owned by Amerada Hess Corp. and AmSouth are charged with deceptive and unfair business practices. It is alleged that the gas stations are issuing a preauthorization hold of $75 on checking accounts for Florida consumers. By withholding funds, the stations hope to ensure valid accounts to cover the charge but Florida consumers are denied access to these funds for several days. The lawsuit charges the companies with breach of contract, deceptive and unfair trade practices, breach of fiduciary duty, and conversion of funds.
