Houston, TX: Allegations of negligence are being made in the wake of damage allegedly caused by the US Army Corps of Engineers after they began releasing floodwater from Hurricane Harvey, which had been collecting in the Addicks and Barker reservoirs, on August 28.
One family, whose house survived the hurricane without flooding, is claiming that Army Corps of Engineers’ controlled releases, sent water surging into homes along Buffalo Bayou in neighborhoods outlined by I-10 to the north, Gessner to the east, Briar Forest to the south and the reservoir to the west. As a result, a mandatory evacuation for all homes that had flooded was issued, once it became clear the water would not recede in the near future.
Allegations are being made against the US Government that many of the homes in Heathwood, and other affected areas, were flooded with water after the worst of Hurricane Harvey was already over. In one lawsuit, the homeowners claim the Corps effectively condemned more than 3,000 structures when they decided to release water to take the pressure off the Addicks and Barker reservoirs.
