FDA Issues Warning

The FDA has issued a warning about rhabdomyolysis, a type of muscle injury that can lead to kidney failure or death, and which results from combining simvistatin with the anti-arrhythmia medicine amiodarone.

Simvistatin is one of two components Vytorin, as well as one of the ingredients in Zocor and Simcor. It is also sold generically. Amiodarone is an ingredient in Cordarone, and is also sold generically. Warnings were issued in 2002 about complications arising from combining the drugs.
