Mr. Heater Inc. announces recall to repair over 50,000 "Big Buddy/Tough Buddy" Propane Heaters

On March 31st, 2005, Mr. Heater Inc., of Cleveland, Ohio announced a voluntary recall of approximately 55,000 Mr. Heater "Big Buddy" and "Tough Buddy" Propane heaters. 26 reports have been received stating that the valve on the Propane tank can leak, posing a fire hazard to consumers, especially if an ignition source is present. There have been no reports of injuries. Consumers should stop using the heaters immediately and contact the manufacturer to arrange for free replacement or repair. Only model number MH18B Mr. Heater "Big Buddy" and "Tough Buddy" propane heaters are included in the recall. The model number is located on the rear panel of the unit. The heaters are either colored black with yellow accents around the burner tiles or light gray with red accents around the burner tiles. "Mr. Heater" is imprinted in the lower right hand corner of the heaters. Manufactured in China, these heaters were sold through home centers, sporting goods stores, and hardware stores nationwide from September 2004 through December 2004 for between $120 and $149.

Our shop burned down 2/28/2017 while i had the Big Buddy model #MH18B on "low" setting. The fire inspector tagged that the heater was the source of the fire. I bought the heater 1/18/17 and ran it on low during the night and or when i was not out working in the shop. On 2/28 i went in for lunch went back to the shop to see smoke and flames. In the weeks ahead of the fire i smelt like raw propane, i check all the hose and fittings and bottle with soap/water and no indication of leacks. Please do not go asleep with these units in hunting camps, boats, or house, i just lost my livlyhood and $1million dollors in my shop but no lost of life

My new catalytic gas heater caught FIRE on me tonight ! ! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Just by luck, I was sitting right next to it and put the fire out quickly. The flames were shooting out of the side were the gas connection is. After I put it out, I checked for leaks and there was none. The scary part is I went to sleep with it on last night! ! It's called Mr. Heater / Rough Buddy. PLEASE SHARE !

It's a Model MH9BX
