Texas woman files lawsuit against Bayer citing Yaz side effects

Beaumont, TXA woman from Texas has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the manufacturer of Yaz and Yasmin birth control pills claiming the company is responsibly for her blood clot and the death of her unborn baby.

span itemprop="image" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ImageObject" style="display:block">Candice Richardson was allegedly on the contraceptive, marketed by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, and stated her suit that she suffered "blood clotting and related injuries, requiring hospitalization and resulting in the stillbirth of her daughter at 27 weeks of pregnancy," the Southeast Texas Record reports.

The lawsuit accuses Bayer of concealing the Yasmin and Yaz side effects.

A 2008 FDA warning letter to Bayer reportedly stated that Yaz and Yasmin birth control pills have the potential to increase a person's blood potassium levels, which can in turn cause heart problems. Both pills have also been linked to causing blood clots in women using the contraceptive.

Recently, Bayer revealed that its Yaz birth control pill was being investigated by a Swiss health regulator to see if the contraceptive had anything to do with the death of a woman who took the pill. The woman reportedly died from the effects of a pulmonary embolism.
