Flammable Bathrobes at the heart of defective product personal injury lawsuits

. By
Hartford, CTConsumers may want to re-think giving bathrobes to friends and relations this holiday season, as a Connecticut woman is suing the Blair Company after her mother was burned to death while wearing one of the company's allegedly flammable chenille bathrobes, in the first of a potential string of defective product personal injury lawsuits.

span itemprop="image" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ImageObject" style="display:block">The Pennsylvania-based online apparel company has issued two recalls of their chenille articles after they failed to meet federal flammability standards, presenting a severe risk of burns to purchasers.

To date nine people have been burned while wearing the robes, all of which occurred prior to the April 2009 product recall according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission

"I would like to know why it took four long years to finally make an official recall take place and see Blair punished for violating federal product safety laws," says the victims daughter Sharon Davis. "We're trying to reach as many people to warn them… to check their closets and check the closets of their loved ones, especially older ones."

Under defective product liability law's strict liability clause, manufacturers of a defective product are responsible for all injuries occurring from the use of the product in question.
