Chinese drywall spawning defective product lawsuits

. By

Drywall imported from China has sparked a massive number of defective drywall lawsuits in the South with close to 150 cases being filed in Mississippi alone.

DrywallThe drywall, which was designed to be used in home construction, has been reportedly blamed for causing health problems among homeowners.

Similar incidents have also occurred in homes in other states that include Florida, Virginia and Texas. One organization, dubbed the Chinese Drywall Complaint Center, was created to assist homeowners in getting information about the issue.

"This is the absolute worst environmental disaster in U.S. history," the organization said. "The federal response…has been a pathetic joke, given the scope and size of the extreme issues now affecting any U.S. citizen living in one of these toxic homes."

Mississippi defective product lawyers have said that, next to Florida and Louisiana, their state has the highest incidence of homes being built with the toxic drywall. This fact is allegedly based on the amount of construction and home repairs that occurred after Hurricane Katrina.

According to Business Week, a federal judge announced that the first trial concerning this issue will be held in January.ADNFCR-2533-ID-19364980-ADNFCR
