Elizabeth City, NCA 46-year-old woman who died in a boating accident on the Pasquotank River has been identified by local authorities in North Carolina.

Marie Lassiter of South Mills, Virginia, reportedly died on Sunday, September 20, after she and her husband were ejected from their boat, the Virginia-Pilot reported. The Coast Guard was called to the river near Weeksville after receiving reports of an unmanned boat going in circles.

When they arrived, they reportedly found 45-year-old Armsted Lassiter carrying his wife.

Sergeant Mark Rich of the Wildlife Resources Commission stated that the couple was heading toward the Albemarle Sound in a 19-foot Carolina skiff at approximately 2:45 p.m. on Sunday when the boat allegedly "took a hard turn."

The turn ejected the couple out of the boat.

Rich added that as the couple treaded water, their boat continued to turn in tight circles near them and that drugs and alcohol were not involved in the boat accident. The sergeant did not offer any details of what happened to the boat.
