New Survey Revives Memories of LINA Disability Claims Debacle

. By
Belleville, ILA new survey of seniors enrolled in Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) claims that the majority of applicants find the process overly complicated and confusing, prompting fears that the federally funded organization is taking advantage of the elderly in a manner reminiscent of the LINA insurance controversy.

span itemprop="image" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ImageObject" style="display:block">SSDI claimants reported that the process of seeking assistance was overly stressful, extremely expensive and wrought with pitfalls seemingly designed to prevent the insured from utilizing their benefits packages.

"Too many initial claims are denied for simple mistakes that have nothing to do with the applicant's disability status," says president and CEO of survey organizer Allsup, Jim Allsup. "If they only knew third-party assistance was available to help properly document their disability, thousands of claimants could get through faster and avoid painful financial and personal repercussions of getting stuck in the system."

The study follows in the wake of an announced settlement between the state of California and the Life Insurance Company of North America (LINA), which also operates as CIGNA, in which the former charged that the insurer frequently denied disability claims without proper cause in direct affront to insurance law.
