Tommie Copper Hit with False Advertising Lawsuit

- by

New York, NY: A consumer fraud class action lawsuit has been filed against Tommie Copper, Inc. alleging the company falsely marketed its "copper-infused" compression clothing as providing certain health benefits, including pain relief.

According to the lawsuit, Tommie Copper advertised its compression clothing as being able to reduce pain and inflammation brought on by such medical conditions as arthritis and multiple sclerosis. The Tommie Copper lawsuit alleges the health benefit claims made by the company are false and have no medical substantiation. The lawsuit states "Defendants' representations and claims...are false and misleading. Contrary to Defendants' claims, Tommie Copper Products do not aid in relieving pain, let alone chronic and debilitating pain such as arthritis or MS. Nor does it: neutralize "free-radicals"; stimulate the immune system to fight infections; repair injured tissues; and/or promote healing. In fact, clinical tests have found no meaningful therapeutic effect for copper concerning pain, inflammation, physical functioning, and stiffness beyond those of a placebo for patients with pain symptoms.

The lawsuit alleges that by making misleading statements, Tommie Copper has "injured Plaintiff and the Class (defined herein) by inducing them to purchase a worthless and/or overpriced product. Tommie Copper does so with one goal in mind- to reap enormous profits at the expense of unsuspecting consumers. Tommie Copper, however, should be held accountable and liable for its deceptive conduct in the marketing and sale of Tommie Copper Products."

Tommie Copper copper-infused products have been popularized through paid celebrity endorser, Montel Williams, who has publicly shared his own battle with multiple sclerosis. Williams is also a named defendant in the lawsuit. Another paid endorser, Dara Torres, is currently involved in a breach of contract lawsuit with Tommie Copper; she is not a defendant in this lawsuit.

The deceptive business practice and false advertising lawsuit is Lucero et al v. Tommie Copper Inc., Tommie Copper Holdings, Inc, Thomas Kallish and Montel Williams, Case No. 15-cv-6055, S. D. NY.

I bought these for my mom who's constantly having knee and leg pain, but it didn't work. She was patient hoping it work over time. She walks all day at work, then comes home to a second story apartment where she's constantly going up and down the stairs, so she's in pain 24/7. I was hoping this product would help her, and the price wasn't cheap..but here we are.

I have Psoritic Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis,.. I bought the TC socks, gloves & one knee device. It was a total waste of money. I got all of this in high hopes they would elevate my pain. It was a total waste of money. It also devastated me financially because I am on disability. His commercial are so convincing and so are some of the comments. I should have followed the few negative reviews I read.

When this product was advertised I bought 2 knee sleeves for my mother, who suffers with constant pain in both of her knees. She tried them and it didn't help with the pain. I tried getting in touch with them, but never received any kind of response.

Have MS and purchased a couple of these products and tried them for a long period of time only to have them not work at all. I only purchased and tried these because the specific claim that it helps people with pain from MS, something this product certainly does NOT do.
