Another Victory for Plaintiffs in the Case against Topamax

Alton, IL A jury trial in Philadelphia has delivered yet another blow to the manufacturers of Topamax, and ordered Janssen Pharmaceuticals to pay $3 million in damages to Kelly and Brian Anderson and their child, who was born five years ago with a bilateral cleft palate and lip.

Topamax Attorney: Oral Clefts Can Require Many Surgeries

Los Angeles, CA Infants who are exposed to reported Topamax side effects, such as cleft lip and cleft palate, require surgery to fix the Topamax birth defect, but often one surgery is not enough. In fact, it might surprise people that infants born with cleft lip and cleft palate can require years of treatment that involve many different specialists and disciplines. For that reason, some attorneys, such as Nicole Maldonado, attorney at Baum, Hedlund, Aristei & Goldman, are investigating a possible Topamax lawsuit, alleging patients were not adequately warned about the risks to the fetus.

Topamax Attorney Nicole Maldonado: "These Families Have Suffered"

Los Angeles, CA Although the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning letter concerning possible Topamax side effects, there may still be some moms whose infants suffered from reported Topamax birth defects but do not know about the warning. That warning involves the link between Topamax and pregnancy, and suggests that infants exposed to Topamax early in pregnancy are at increased risk of birth defects. Nicole Maldonado, attorney with Baum, Hedlund, Aristei & Goldman, discusses the FDA's warning about Topamax, and what it means for moms.
