Elderly Man Killed in Texas Car Crash

New Braunfels, TXAn elderly man was recently killed in a Texas car accident in the town of New Braunfels.

span itemprop="image" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ImageObject" style="display:block">The accident occurred early in the morning when the 1993 Dodge pickup truck operated by 75-year-old John Harper crossed the center line on the Guadalupe River Bridge, according to KXAN, an NBC affiliate in Texas.

The truck crossed the center line and into oncoming traffic before it went over the bridge's guardrail. Harper's vehicle then slid down an embankment, where it caught fire. The vehicle, however, did not enter the river.

New Braunfels police, firefighters and emergency workers responded to the accident but were unable to save Harper's life. He had been alone in the car and was the only person who was killed in the accident, according to the news source.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) there were 3,382 traffic fatalities in Texas during 2008. That total was the second most in the nation, putting Texas behind only California, which saw 3,434 road deaths that year.
