Reforming Ohio Labor Law Could Increase Employment

. By
Columbus, OHAccording to the Salem News, changes in Ohio labor laws could help boost the state's employment by making it more attractive to businesses and industries.

span itemprop="image" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ImageObject" style="display:block">Last week, Governor-elect John Kasich revealed his selection of state Senator Steve Buehrer to lead the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation.

One of the senator's tasks will reportedly be to propose a plan reforming workers' compensation in the state. Kasich has pointed out that "a recurring theme in my conversations with small and large businesses over the past several years has been 'fix workers' comp,'" according to the news source.

When compared with other states, workers' compensation rates paid by Ohio businesses are relatively high. The news source points out that privatization, which recently occurred in West Virginia, is a strategy that could ultimately aid Ohio in its workers' compensation plan.

According to the US Labor Department, the country's jobless rate climbed to 9.8 percent in November, which was its highest rate in seven months.
