Lack of Fence near Shopping Center Could Result in Further Missouri Accident Injury

. By
Versailles, MOTwo separate Missouri accidents have claimed three lives in the last few weeks—two in traffic accidents and one involving a pedestrian. One of the victims was a passenger in a car that was struck by another vehicle after the driver went off the road and over-corrected.

According to a report from the 9/24/10 edition of the Associated Press (AP), 17-year-old James Iman was traveling westbound along a stretch of Missouri 52 near Versailles when he drove off the right side of the road. Iman overcorrected, and his vehicle went into a skid. He was thrust into the path of an eastbound vehicle in which Betty Girratono, 85, of Windsor, was a passenger.

Iman was pronounced at the scene. Girratono was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead some 90 minutes later.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The accident occurred in the middle of the day on September 22. It is not known what the weather conditions were like at the time of the collision.

Meanwhile, another accident claimed the life of a pedestrian attempting to cross Interstate 70 with a companion. The Kansas City Star reports that the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a car traveling along the highway may have been homeless. The companion ran from the scene after the accident happened.

According to reports, there was no indication that the driver of the car was impaired. The driver was traveling at a normal rate of speed for the highway at the time the Missouri accident occurred.

The Kansas City Star reported on 9/27/10 that Interstate 70 abuts a shopping center. There is no fence separating the shopping district from the highway. Could this be a recipe for future Missouri accident injury? Time will tell.
