Man Concerned About Use of Denture Cream

. By
Las, Vegas, NVMichael F. says he has been using Fixodent denture adhesive ever since he first got his dentures. Although he did not notice problems right away, he says he has noticed possible signs of reported Fixodent denture cream side effects in the past few months. Now, Michael wonders if he might have developed zinc poisoning from using Fixodent.

Dentures"For the past 7 months or so, I've been feeling off balance and having headaches and dizziness," Michael says. "And then I had seen on LawyersandSettlements.com about the zinc in Fixodent. I have been using Fixodent for 4 to 5 years now, since getting my dentures. I feel that when I use Fixodent, it feels like it causes a little surge, almost like what you get from smoking. I believe it's from the zinc and I'm concerned about it.

Whenever I place the dentures, I get a surge of dizziness and headaches and tingling and other [symptoms] that are caused from excess zinc. So, that's the extent of how this all came about. It was not all at once; it has been a gradual build-up. I used Fixodent for years now, so it was not just overnight that this happened. It slowly builds up and now I think it's having an effect on me. It's becoming pretty severe."

Michael says he will be taking tests to see if he has developed zinc poisoning. Among other side effects, Michael notes that he has difficulty walking and tremors that he did not have prior to using Fixodent.

"It's important to get this information out," Michael says. "I'm not trying to put in something that's not a valid claim. I'm having these issues and I'll have the test done to see if that [zinc poisoning] is the cause of it. I'm concerned about it—this is something to be worried about."

People who have used Fixodent and other denture cream adhesives are encouraged to request medical testing to determine whether or not they have developed zinc poisoning. Zinc poisoning can lead to neuropathy and hypocupremia, which is an abnormally low level of copper in a person's blood. Symptoms of zinc poisoning include weakness in the arms, hands and legs, poor balance, tingling, lack of coordination, numbness and a burning sensation.
