R. Rex Parris Law Firm settles insurance bad faith case for $15,000,000

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 06, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- R. Rex Parris Law Firm lawyers Alexander R. Wheeler, Jason P. Fowler and Daniel Eli have settled a personal injury and insurance bad faith case one year after a jury handed down a verdict in the underlying personal injury case.

In the injury case, R. Rex Parris trial lawyers Alexander R. Wheeler and Jason P. Fowler represented three family members that were injured when the defendant, who was intoxicated, crossed over into their lane and hit them head-on. In June of 2015, a Los Angeles Superior Court jury awarded the plaintiffs nearly $21,000,000 in the underlying trial.

The defendant in the personal case was insured by QBE Insurance for $30,000 in coverage. In the second insurance lawsuit, the plaintiffs alleged that QBE Insurance’s failure to timely settle their case exposed QBE to the full amount of the trial verdict, and that QBE’s liability was no longer limited by its small policy limits.

Plaintiffs, the defendant, and his insurance carrier, QBE Insurance, agreed to settle both the personal injury and insurance bad faith cases for $15,000,000, despite the fact that its insured was covered by a policy that had the state minimum insurance limits of $30,000 to cover the accident.
