Due to Essure’s severe side effects and difficulty removing the device, however, Essure’s Physician Training Manual reports in its clinical trials a perforation rate of 3.4 percent and 0.5 percent expulsion (only 9 out of 14 patients underwent a successful second placement after expulsion—which is possibly the body’s way of rejecting a foreign body). Eliquis Lawsuits Moving Forward in MDL, Venue Still to be Determined Miami, FL: Apixaban, a blood thinner marketed by Bristol-Meyers Squibb Co. (Bristol Meyers) and Pfizer Inc. (Pfizer) under the name Eliquis and promoted as “something better than warfarin,” turned out to be something else again for patients, according to Eliquis blood thinner lawsuits. Plaintiffs allege the latter-generation blood thinners left them with uncontrollable bleeding, primarily involving the brain and gastrointestinal tract. Many case documents characterize those bleeding events as life-threatening.

Number of Taxotere MDL Lawsuits Surpasses 700 Cases New Orleans, LA: In a joint report filed in federal court in January, attorneys representing plaintiffs and defendant Sanofi S.A. in multidistrict litigation of Taxotere lawsuits reported a spike in the number of lawsuits alleging that the chemotherapy drug Taxotere causes permanent hair loss, a condition known as alopecia.
