Pfizer Report Could Change Outcome of Zoloft Birth Defects Lawsuit

Washington, DC Pfizer may have been warned by a company drug safety official about a potential link between the antidepressant drug Zoloft and birth defects and recommended changes to the medication’s safety warning. Pfizer is currently facing over 1,000 Zoloft birth defect lawsuits, which allege the medication is responsible for newborn abnormalities including congenital heart defects.

Zoloft Lawsuit Filed in Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA A Zoloft lawsuit alleging wrongful death has been filed against Pfizer and the maker of a generic version of Zoloft in Philadelphia. The lawsuit alleges an infant boy died of generic Zoloft birth defects and that the companies involved in the making of Zoloft and generic Zoloft failed to warn about the risks of Zoloft side effects.

Zoloft Birth Defects Lawsuit Update

New York, NY As of April 2013, approximately 330 Zoloft birth defects lawsuits against Pfizer are pending in the federal multidistrict litigation (MDL) established in U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The first Zoloft bellwether trials are set to begin in 2014.

Are SSRI Medications Worth the Risk?

Waltham, MA A recent study suggests the risk of Zoloft side effects may not be worth the benefits. The study focused on SSRI medications, a class of drugs that includes Zoloft and suggests that the risks of Zoloft birth defects and other adverse reactions may outweigh any potential benefits.

Baton Rouge, LA Another Zoloft lawsuit has been filed alleging a baby exposed to the antidepressant was born with Zoloft heart birth defects. The lawsuit alleges that Pfizer, maker of Zoloft, knew about the risks associated with a so-called Zoloft pregnancy but did not adequately warn patients and doctors about that risk.
