Johnson and Johnson recalls contact lenses

Johnson and Johnson (J&J) announced today it has recalled 100,000 boxes of its "1 Day Acuvue TruEye" lenses distributed in Asia and Europe. It has not expanded the recall to the US.

The lenses are manufactured in Ireland and distributed in several countries in Europe and Asia, including Japan. The recall was a result of complaints by customers in Japan who reported "unusual stinging or pain upon inserting" the lenses. According to J&J, a subsequent investigation found "an isolated issue in one portion of the lens rinsing process on a particular manufacturing line in a select number of lots."
