Rollette Oil Co.
Janesville, WI: (May-23-07) The Wisconsin Department of Justice filed charges against Rollette Oil Co. of Janesville in Rock County Circuit Court, alleging that it was guilty of violating state hazardous substance spill remediation laws at the site of a former gasoline filling station the company owns.
The suit stemmed from a complaint filed by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), which claimed that Rollette Oil failed to properly investigate and remediate soil and groundwater contamination discovered after underground fuel storage tanks were removed at the site in 1992. In a settlement reached, Rollette will pay penalties and costs totaling $36,000 for its violations. Apart from the financial penalty, it will also implement a DNR-approved remediation plan to recover and remove petroleum contaminants from the subsurface at the site.
