Vioxx Alternatives

It it important that you contact your doctor to find an appropriate alternative to Vioxx.

Older prescription arthritis drugs that can be used in place of Vioxx are Mobic, Voltaren, and Naproxyn. There may be a higher incidence of stomach upset, but there's no proven heart risk. Some doctors recommend over-the-counter antacid pills if patients notice stomach trouble.

All these drugs, however, can damage the kidneys with prolonged use. Tylenol and Acetominophens can be used for pain, but are not so effective for arthritis.

If you are using over-the-counter drugs for long periods of time, you should have your doctor monitor you for their effects on your kidneys, stomach, and other side effects.
