- Coffee Cake Recall Wegmans Food Markets Inc., an upscale supermarket chain with 71 stores in five states, is recalling wreath-shaped kuchen or coffee cakes because the product label did not mention that they contain pecans. People who have an allergy to pecans run the risk of a serious or life-threatening reaction. No injuries have been reported. About 4,400 of the 14-ounce holiday-season cakes, which are topped with red and green cherries, have been offered for sale at Wegmans stores since Nov. 25 with a "best if used by" date of Dec. 12. More than 2,000 were purchased and the remaining ones were removed from store shelves. The family-owned business has 50 stores in New York, 11 in Pennsylvania, seven in New Jersey, two in Virginia, and one in Maryland. Customers with questions or concerns can call the company's consumer affairs department at 1-800-Wegmans, ext. 4760.
