Woman Injured in Accident with Garbage Truck Awarded $2.4M

Essex, NJ: A motorist who was rear-ended and sustained traumatic brain injury and coma as a result, has been awarded $2.4 million in settlement of her car accident injury lawsuit.

In her lawsuit, Sofia Torres alleges she was injured after colliding with a garbage truck, from behind, when on Route 46, in Fairfield. The suit claims that the truck's lower rear brake lights were obscured by mud and dirt, so Torres was unable to see that the truck was stopped.

In her lawsuit, Torres claims that in addition to causing her to go into a coma, she also suffered a fractured kneecap, tibia, fibula, ankle and foot in her right leg and the femur in her left, and impaired her ability to use her (dominant) right hand.
