Elderly Man Tasered by Deputies Reaches $65K Settlement

This is a settlement for the Civil / Human Rights lawsuit.

East Lansing, MI: An elderly, retired state police trooper has settled his civil rights lawsuit for $65K. He brought the lawsuit against Isabella County sheriff's deputies over allegations that they used excessive force on him, involving a taser.

The incident occured when paramedics were called to assist his wife, and the defendants allege that the man tried to interfere. The plaintiff claims he was lying on the ground in handcuffs when the sheriffs tasered him. The defendants asserted that the deputy who tasered the plaintiff was defending himself and used only the force necessary to subdue him. The parties reached a $65,000 settlement prior to trial.
