Seven Year Old Awarded $52K in Dog Bite Case

Oakland County, MI: A young girl who was bitten by a black Labrador Retriever has been awarded $52,000 by the jury hearing her personal injury suit. The girl suffered multiple puncture wounds in her scalp and a flap wound behind her ear. She also underwent one year of psychological therapy for emotional injuries.

The suit was filed on her behalf to recover damages under Michigan's strict liability dog bite statute. The defendant claimed that they were not responsible for the attack because the child had teased the dog when she played with it two months before the incident and, therefore, provoked the attack.
