Family Awarded $1.5 Million in Medical Malpractice SuitBillings, MT: A jury has awarded Amy Heidt and her four children $1.7 million as settlement of a medical malpractice alleging the death of 42-year old Gerard Heidt. The suit was filed against Billings Clinic and Dr. Faranak Argani, an internal medicine physician and sought $1.9 million in lost wages and funds for the children's college educations. The jury found that Argani did not properly monitor Mr. Heidt for a known heart valve condition, commonly referred to as a leaky valve. And, they alleged that Argani should have referred Mr. Heidt to a heart specialist after he reported experiencing chest pain. The family alleged that Argani misdiagnosed the chest pain as a torn muscle instead of pain caused by his leaky valve. He died a year later because he did not receive a replacement valve.
