$1.1M Settlement in Franklin County Jail Strip Search Suit

This is a settlement for the Civil / Human Rights lawsuit.

Sunderland, MA: A $1.1 million settlement was reached in the illegal strip search lawsuit involving people taken to Franklin County jail. The suit was filed by Gregory Garvey in response to his being strip searched by corrections officers while in custody after being arrested at his house, Jan. 30, 2007, on a default warrant for failure to appear in court on the charge of driving with a suspended license.

Court settlement documents indicate that payments of at least $2,850 will be made to roughly 250 plaintiffs who joined the class action suit. Garvey, the lead plaintiff, will receive an additional $20,000 for the time he put in on the suit and loss of privacy.
