Death Row Wrongful Death Lawsuit Sees $450,000 Settlement

Reno, NV: A $450,000 settlement has been approved by the Nevada Board of Examiners in a wrongful death case brought by the family of a former inmate on death row.

Patrick Cavanaugh, the former manager of the 1950s band The Coasters, was convicted in 1985 of killing band member Nathaniel "Buster" Wilson in Las Vegas. He subsequently ended up in jail, on death row. However he died of gangrene in 2006 at the age of 60. He developed the gangrene as a result of diabetes, which his family claimed in the lawsuit, had gone untreated in that the prison had refused him his insulin.
