$17.5 Million Settlement for Breast Cancer Lawsuit

St. John's, NF: A $17.5 million settlement has been reached between Newfoundland and Labrador's health authority and some 425 victims of botched breast cancer tests.

Filed in 2006, the suit alleged that mistakes were made in hormone receptor tests done to help determine the most appropriate type of breast cancer treatment for both men and women diagnosed with the disease.

Of the 425 patients who suffered botched tests, 127 have died, but it may be impossible to determine if those people died as a result of not receiving the most effective or potentially life-saving treatment for their cancer.
