Harassment, Retaliation

Los Angeles, CA: (May-08-08) The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) brought a class action lawsuit against Specialty Restaurants Corporation, an owner and operator of restaurants and banquet facilities nationwide, alleging that the company sexually harassed its employees and discriminated against them on the basis of their gender. The suit stated that the Anaheim, CA, based company, that operates Monterey Hill Banquets in Monterey Park, CA. subjected its employees to inappropriate touching, indecent and offensive comments, and other forms of sexually harassing conduct by co-workers and supervisors. Sources said that one female employee was harassed based on her national origin. In addition to that, the federal agency claimed that the company retaliated against both male and female employees who reported the harassment or cooperated with investigations.

As part of a recent announcement, spokespersons for the EEOC stated that the class action suit was resolved with Specialty Restaurants Corporation agreeing to pay $625,000 to claimants. Additionally, the company also agreed to adopt remedial measures to ensure that its employees are not sexually harassed.
