Wrongful Seizure

Austin, TX: (May-05-08) Javier Gonzales, an Austin man, brought a lawsuit against the Jim Wells County Task Force, alleging that they wrongly seized money from him in 2005. Javier Gonzales's suit was brought in the Southern District of Texas US District Court in July 2007, in which he claimed that the task force placed a seizure on $10,000 of his money. He termed the action illegal and unconstitutional.

Sources involved with the litigation stated that in a recent development in the case, the Jim Wells County agreed to settle the dispute by paying Gonzales $110,000. Under the terms of the settlement agreement, in exchange for the payout, Gonzales agreed to drop his lawsuit against the county.
