Teen Driver Wins Suit

Jacksonville, FL: (Apr-16-08) Michael McMenamy brought a personal injury lawsuit against Welcome Food and C&C Discount Beverage, two convenience stores, who he claimed sold him alcohol. McMenamy, who was underage, stated that he knew the clerk at one of the stores, and that the other was not difficult to persuade to make the sale.

As a result of driving under the influence of alcohol, McMenamy was in a crash that left him a quadriplegic. He stated that he wasn't the only person who was responsible for the crash, but that the two stores broke the law in their own right and should be held accountable for those actions. Right after the crash McMenamy was paralyzed from the neck down. He later regained use of his upper body. His lawyers stated that though 18-year-olds, 16, 17, 19-year-olds are big, tall strapping kids who thought they are invincible, the unfortunate reality is they're still kids.

Sources stated that the lawsuits against the stores have been settled out of court, in which the settlement was a six-figure one, though details are not being made public. [FIRST COAST NEWS: BIG SETTLEMENT IN UNDERAGE DRINKING CASE]
