Worker Lunch Breaks DeniedEast Bay, CA: (Apr-08-08) Former employees of Pyramid Breweries Inc. brought a lawsuit against the company, alleging that the company did not allow them adequate rest and meal breaks. The employees at the three California brew pubs, Pyramid's Sacramento, Berkeley and Walnut Creek, claimed that Pyramid Breweries denied them adequate opportunity to take meal and rest breaks as required by California law.Officials stated that a settlement has been reached in the case, in which the company agreed to resolve allegations against it with a $1.3 million payout. The deal, which resulted after mediation, offers certain nonexempt employees named "front of the house" and "back of the house" workers, who were employed at the brew pubs between Apr. 30, 2003, and Sep. 30, 2007, a share of the settlement money. The settlement awaits approval by the Superior Court in Sacramento. [EAST BAY BUSINESS TIMES: PYRAMID BREWERIES SETTLES CALIF.
