Wreck Claims Passenger's Life

Madison County, IA: (Mar-31-08) Vicki Worthen brought a wrongful death lawsuit against Paul Roan of Edwardsville, after her husband died in an auto accident. The suit accused Roan of negligence, stating that his careless operation of his vehicle on August 24, 2007, caused it to overturn. The suit stated that Worthen's husband was Roan's passenger, and that the crash resulted in his being fatally injured, leaving behind his wife and daughter. Worthen stated that Roan was negligent by failing to keep his vehicle under proper control, failing to keep his vehicle on the roadway and failing to drive at a speed that was proper under the circumstances.

In a recent development, sources state that Worthen is asking Madison County Circuit Judge Andy Matoesian to sign off on a $100,000 settlement, resolving the wrongful death suit. The deal has tentatively gone through, and if approved, the settlement agreement will provide $25,218 in legal costs, Vicki Worthen will get $65,782, and her daughter Samantha Worthen will get $9,000. Worthen stated that her husband suffered great pain before his death and that her husband's death caused her to sustain a pecuniary loss in addition to funeral and burial expenses. [THE MADISON-ST.
