Employee Retaliation

This is a settlement for the Discrimination lawsuit.

Erie, PA: (Mar-17-08) The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission brought a lawsuit against AccuSpec Electronic Services, an Erie County electronics company, alleging that it discriminated against a Hispanic worker. The EEOC brought the lawsuit against AccuSpec on behalf of Nancy Ortiz, who claimed she faced discrimination on the basis of her race. The commission's lawsuit stated that Ortiz was subjected to ethnic slurs and negative comments based on her national origin, and was wrongly fired in retaliation for complaining about the harassment.

Sources said that a settlement has been reached in the case, in which AccuSpec Electronic Services agreed to pay Ortiz $55,000. Additionally, under the terms of the settlement agreement, AccuSpec agreed revise to its anti-discrimination and anti-retaliation policies, post a notice about the settlement, and provide annual anti-discrimination training to supervisors, managers and others. AccuSpec denies any liability of wrongdoing. [THE TIMES LEADER: ERIE CO. ELECTRONICS COMPANY SETTLES DISCRIMINATION LAWSUIT]
