Student Hazing

Laramie, WY: (Mar-08-08) Four students brought a lawsuit against the University of Wyoming; over an incident in 2007 involving allegations of hazing. Sources stated that the litigating parties had reached a settlement agreement, resolving the lawsuit. Under the terms of the agreement, the university agreed that student disciplinary procedures were not fully followed and has agreed to pay for attorneys' fees incurred by the students related to those proceedings, which amounted to $30,000.

For their part, the students agreed to accept responsibility for their actions in violation of the University's Code of Conduct, and are complying with educational requirements imposed by the university.

Sources on both sides stated that in order to ensure the privacy of the students, the parties have agreed not to further discuss either the terms of the discipline imposed on the students or the litigation. With the payout, litigation against the University of Wyoming has been resolved, and the complaints will be dismissed. [UWYO NEWS: SETTLEMENT REACHED IN LITIGATION]
