Stadium Eminent Domain

Arlington, TX: (Feb-11-08) A group of landowners, represented by the same legal counsel, brought a lawsuit against the city over eminent domain issues connected to the new Dallas Cowboys stadium. The property owners included Charlie Scott and Walter Herrington, who owned large numbers of rental houses in the neighborhood that were demolished for the stadium. Sources stated that the city had already agreed to pay the landowners $1.8 million, but they were appealing the settlement in Tarrant County courts. In a recent development, city officials claimed that the city has tentatively agreed to pay them an additional $868,250 to end the dispute. Roger Venables, Arlington real estate manager, said the land acquisition for the $1.1 billion stadium has cost $78.7 million. Sources claim that the city's portion of the stadium has been capped at $325 million, so additional costs are paid by the Cowboys. The stadium was originally budgeted at $650 million.
