Boat Crash

Jacksonville, FL: (Jan-08-08) James Brunet brought a lawsuit against the Department of Transportation, alleging personal injury after he and fellow officer Keith Nasworth crashed into a piling from the old Fuller Warren Bridge while on duty. The suit claimed that the boat crashed while the two officers were patrolling the St. Johns River prior to Super Bowl XXXIX. Brunet suffered a broken neck and spent several months in the Intensive Care Unit at Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center as a result of the crash. Sources stated that he underwent reconstructive surgery on his face and was forced to wear a halo on his head for several months after the accident.

As part of a settlement reached with the Department of Transportation, records show that Brunet received a $100,000 payout. Following the settlement, Brunet claimed that the state could have spent a lot less to take steps that would have prevented the crash in the first place. [YAHOO: BOAT CRASH]
