Apple Refunds

Los Angeles, CA: (May-08-08) A class action lawsuit was brought against Apple Inc. by over 2.3 million Macintosh computer owners, alleging that some of its power adapters were prone to sparking. The lawsuit was filed after customers bought certain replacement adapters for PowerBook and iBook computers. The 2006 filed suit claimed that the company misrepresented problems with the power adapters. Court papers show that in 2001, Apple recalled about 570,000 adapters sold with PowerBooks after reports of overheating. At that time the company told customers to stop using the adapters and offered free replacements.

In a recent development in the case, company spokespersons announced that the Cupertino, CA, based Apple will give cash payments to customers who bought an adapter made by Apple or another company to replace a failed one. The settlement, filed in federal court in San Jose, stated that the refunds will be between $25 and $79, and as many as 2.3 million users may be eligible.
