Medical Malpractice

This is a settlement for the Medical Malpractice lawsuit.

Cook County, IL: (Oct-13-07) John and Diane Scholz of Gurnee brought a medical malpractice lawsuit against Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Dr. David Green, alleging that John Scholz suffered due to negligence and wrong diagnosis. The suit claimed that Scholz was admitted to Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Sept. 4, 2000, with a life threatening lung condition when doctors decided to use a drug to break clots in the lungs. Reports show that the nurse gave Scholz too much of the drug over too short a time. The medicine caused Scholz to bleed from his tongue, forehead and face before the drug was discontinued. The next day, hematologist Dr. David Green noted that Scholz had a clear sign of neurological injury, but did not take any action to help the situation. It was alleged that while other doctors recognized that Scholz appeared worse and ordered a CT scan, the test was not performed.

As part of a settlement reached, the Gurnee couple received a $2.9 million payout to resolve the medical malpractice case. Statistics show that 1.5 million people are harmed by medication errors in US hospitals every year. [LAKE COUNTY NEWS SUN: MEDICAL MALPRACTICE]
