Delta County, MI

Escanaba, MI: (Aug-17-07) Gary and Annis Bengston brought a lawsuit against Delta County, alleging that the value of their property was decreased by Delta County by not allowing development of their commercial premises. The suit was filed almost 10 years ago where the couple cited damages in excess of $400,000.

In a settlement reached, Delta County agreed to pay Gary and Annis Bengston $100,000 to end the decade long lawsuit. Michigan Municipal Risk Management Authority (MMRMA), the county's insurance carrier, will be responsible for paying the settlement amount. The county has a $75,000 deductible on its policy. All the expense, the ongoing costs over the last 10 years, probably ends up being very close to the $75,000. [DAILY PRESS: COMMERCIAL PROPERTY]
