Knox County, KY

Knox County, KY: (May-30-07) Angela Hagler, mother of a 6-year-old girl, filed a lawsuit against the Knox County school system after Sheila Knight, a preschool teacher, ordered the child to go to the bathroom in a bucket. The lawsuit alleged that Knight forced Hagler's then-4-year-old daughter to urinate in a bucket in front of the class. When Hagler first lodged a complaint, then-Superintendent Charles Lindsey ordered that Knight should be fired for bad judgment in handling the girl's request for a potty break during nap time. Knight instead chose to resign. The school system never made it clear, however, whether Knight actually forced the girl to urinate into the bucket or instead threatened to do so because Knight believed the girl asked to go to the rest room to avoid a nap. In a settlement reached between the school system and Angela Hagler, a federal judge will approve of the county paying out $9,000. The county entered into the settlement agreement, admitting no wrongdoing. [KNOX NEWS: TEACHER NEGLIGENCE]
